The PlayStation Vita never really got its chance to shine in terms of popularity, with initial supporters quick to abandon it, followed shortly by being left behind by Sony itself. However, pre-production hardware is a topic that can unite even those who weren't fans of the Vita. For those that enjoy prototype video game systems and have a lot of money to burn, this PlayStation Vita development unit might just be for you. We first saw this "slider" prototype a few years back, when a user on assemblergames got a hold of one and posted a video, showing the differences between it and a normal retail Vita. The most notable features were that the prototype used normal sized SD cards, rather than the controversial and costly proprietary memory cards, and that it slid upwards to reveal its face buttons, much like the prior PSP Go.

This development unit has resurfaced once more, with new pictures giving us another look at the original design. A seller by the name of vandalsgames has put it up for sale, for the low, low price of $19,999.00. On the auction page, the seller claims that it's a DEM-3000H84 unit on firmware 0.990, and it comes with the original power supply, an HDMI cable for the HDMI out function, and the power supply, as the prototype lacks a battery.

This is it. This is the rarest and most sought after PlayStation Vita hardware ever. This is the famous PS Vita Prototype that was has been leaked and discussed all over the web in 2014-2015.

The system is in very good shape given the nature of prototype hardware. It's fully functional and the original SD card with development files are still on there. The HDMI video out feature works perfectly. The system doesn't have a built-in internal battery, as a result, it needs a power supply source to operate.

BREAKING NEWS: Top-Secret Nintendo Switch Prototype Revealed

View attachment 161924

(PM me for further details, all offers considered)
I think you missed the eof.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Wait... so a Vita can't use regular SD or Micro SD cards? What if you hack it?
Vita uses propietaries cards, but sd2vita exists, allowing users to use non propietaries ones.

i keep seeing comments on what if they had standard sd cards... NO, it would not have saved the vita, the vita was a trash console with flawed everything. The games for it weren't good at all, and the performance of those games had a lot of shortcomings. Plus when you played in the dark there were a ton of black splotches on the screen.

The Vita is easily one of my favourite portables of all time, it was very well-designed. There's a number of reasons why it failed, but the hardware itself isn't one of them.

As for the prototype, it's very interesting and matches the early leaked photos of the system, including the Go-style slider. I hope someone purchases and preserves it for future generations, it deserves to be cared for.

its the exact opposite for me, worst handheld ever. It didnt come close to living up to the psp, and the remote play was trash

I don't think I understand your reasoning. The design is an almost exact replica of the PSP, except there are two analog sticks and they're placed more sensibly. It's a thousand times more comfortable than the PSP. The only aspect of the system that was kind of pointless was the touch pad, I would've prefered R2/L2, but besides that it was the perfect follow-up console that improved on all of the PSP's shortcomings.

not to mention the ui and online functionality was basically home-console quality on a handheld. tons of cool stuff. but if you don't like japanese games you'll probably hate the vita no matter what

ftfy.

Sony used proprietary everything only to stop piracy, ps2 and psp got pirated to no end and sony didn't wanted the same to happen to ps3 and vita.
The thing that they didn't knew is that piracy is what makes systems sell.

They should've known better that there's no stopping human curiosity, if there's a wall that needs to be climbed, you can count on people with enough time and interests on their hands to climb it no matter what.

In an alternate dimension, PS Vita was one of the best selling console ever. Who was the genius at sony who thought sales from their accursed memory card could outweigh the lifetime of ps vita sales?

it didn't fail because of the memory card. I don't think your average consumer really knew or cared about that much. it failed because it had a lackluster lineup of games at launch. as marvelous as the hardware was, it is software that ultimately sells consoles and the vita just didn't really have it. gravity rush and uncharted golden abyss are great, but they aren't console sellers. mario and call of duty sell consoles.

plus, it came at the tail-end of the whole handheld craze so there was a lot of consumer fatigue setting in around that time. sony deciding to specifically market the console towards adults didn't help either (although ironically, it would later work for the switch), when the bread and butter of any handheld up until that point was children, who most certainly didn't want one (although Sony would try to win them over with the PSTV Lego bundle, which failed).

Nintendo managed to make the 3DS a success based almost entirely off its first-part software (which it couldn't do with the Wii U), while the Vita (like all Sony consoles) was at the mercy of 3rd-party developers from the start, who all jumped like rats from a sinking ship after launch.

the whole thing ended up being worth it in the end for p4g though, so I'm not too mad about it
