Hey everyone.

You know what, this is longer than intended, I'm gonna put the entirely skippable backstory in a spoiler tag.

I'm really sorry to do this, I frequent many forums and know how a n00b coming in asking for help at the latest page in a long running thread goes, but I gotta try anyways. I've used GBAT for years now, but never had any problems I couldn't figure out myself and thus, never needed to make an account. If you know how to help me with the following situation, I'd be very thankful, if not, well, I've always got vWii mode.

Alright, so I've had my darling Wii U since early 2014, and installed Nintendont almost immediately after. I'm not much of a modder, Hell, I managed to brick a fucking PSP a couple years back, one of the easiest things there are to mod (I've got it working on my 3000 since, I just accidentally put a 2/3000 file onto a PSP Go and they weren't compatible, and brick, and anyway), but I got Nintendont going and I was pretty happy with that. Maybe 8 or so months later I stumbled into an OG 60GB BC PS3 and started using that to fulfill my sixth gen needs primarily since I still have all my discs.

However, a few days ago I FINALLY got around to modding the Wii U side of my Wii U after bragging to a friend about how easy it is (using the words, "even an idiot like me managed to do it") to mod the vWii (and by extension, an actual Wii) and convincing him to buy a Wii for that sweet, sweet Game Cube playback. I got Haxchi on there fine, Mocha, the Wup loader thing, some other stuff, all fine, I've got Wii U backups running off an old 128GB USB stick like a charm, it's great, I scored just under two hundred bucks trading in the 15 or so Wii U games I'd still been holding onto all this time too.

Anyway, like I said,
I've been using Nintendont through vWii for years and it came to my attention recently that you could boot it through a forwarder into the actual Wii U mode which would FINALLY allow for game pad support. I want that BAD. I've followed tutorials and done everything to the best of my ability, but no matter what I do, I screw it up. So basically, I was wondering if someone on here would be gracious enough to offer a comprehensive step by step guide for an actual idiot that will let him play Spider-Man 2 on the game pad as our Lord and Saviour, Tobey Maguire always intended.

I've tried the "Nintendont test vc" one, I've tried the "NINTENDONT FORWARDER" one, and a few other I forget the names of. Tried using the Wii VC Injector Script thing and everything. The first two I was able to attempt to install via WUP on Haxchi but neither would actually *successfully* install and I was always back to square one.

Any help would be immensely appreciated, and any insults at yet another douchebag coming out asking for help only to disappear and rarely, if ever, comment on anything else on the site ever again will also be appreciated ;)

well if you use a nintendont fowarder to use wiiu gamepad it can only read isos off the sd card, if you want to put the iso into usb you would have to make an inject where the iso goes into wiiu formated hdd or wiiu nand but you still need an sd card with nintendnt files and where it will save.

I've got that much down.

I'm more than happy to keep my GC ISOs on the SD card, it's what I bought the card for all those years ago for any way and I don't really have any other devices that can use it nowadays anyway, so that's all good for me. I should have clarified, the USB stick is only being used for Wii U backups, all my GCs are on the SD card where they would normally be for a standard vWii Nintendont install.

I'm not exactly sure what I did wrong, but I formatted my card and started over from scratch. Getting it to run with the forwarder was as easy as I thought it should be, it must have been something simple like me forgetting to rename the loader to boot.elf or something, I don't know, but I got it.

Wouldn't let me reinstall the one DS game I owned, New Super Mario Bros, though. Don't know why. Formatted my whole Wii U (found out it would still keep my built in copy of Mario Kart 8 that came with it, wondered for years), still wouldn't let me install it. Bit the bullet and spent 9.10 on a copy of Brain Training. Bit of a bummer, but it worked perfectly and now I've got my Wii U backups running again, and my Game Cube games running in Wii U mode on the tablet no less and everything is brilliant. Bummer about the 10 bucks, but what can you do?

Anyway, sorry to have wasted anyone's time, like I said, normally I can suss this shit out on my own, even with my limited expertise. On the positive side, after nearly 10 years of lurking, my fuck up did in fact make me FINALLY make an account on here, so who knows, I might be popping up a bit more here and there, and maybe years from now we'll all look back on this origin story and laugh.

I just noticed a thread about VC injections dark filter.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/wiiu-vi...re-dark-filter-and-widescreen-support.517158/

I remember in my childhood that Gamecube games looked clear and more brilliant and more colorful, so I think Wii U might also be applying some dark filter to gamecube games?

Expectations were lower back then, plus 480i/p on a 480i/p TV was a good as it got, so you probably do remember the GameCube looking better than it actually was. (not that it looks bad today, I still think the GameCube holds up very well)

Your now looking at 480p on a 1080p or even 4K display, that is not going to look as sharp or vibrant as current gen consoles which are outputting at 1080p or even 4k.

Playing your GameCube games on the Dolphin emulator is more how you remember them, Emulation looks better than the real hardware at this point in my opinion.

10 bucks for a lifetime of fun is worth it
Oh fuck yeah dude, I didn't hesitate to do it. Well worth it, I'm just a notorious cheap arse and 10 years from now I'll boot up TimeSplitters 2 through Nintendont and go "Fuck, I wonder where I'd be in life right now if I still had that 10 bucks"

Holy crap though, it's so cool to FINALLY be playing Game Cube games through the gamepad. I burned through Hit and Run for the millionth time over these last few days, playing an hour or two before bed, in bed, and it was just great.

Hey guys, sorry to double post, but it's regarding different stuff and tbh it might just merge the two posts anyways.

As outlined above, I've been playing Hit and Run in bed lately on the gamepad, having an absolute blast as you'd expect, and I thought it looked better than it should. I chalked it up to it just being a while since I got into the Wii U GC getup, but I'm playing now on the tele for the first time using the forwarder and holy shit, Simpsons looks amazing on the 55" 1080P screen. Definitely better than it ever did before through Nintendont, but then, I've been using a 2014/2015 build of Nintendont this whole time until now, so my question is;

Did Nintendont do something in it's settings that makes games look a bit better or upscaled or something over the last couple years, or, more likely, is playing a game through the forwarder, which in turn uses the Virtual Console method of Wii playback to get gamepad support going (rather than vWii), the cause of the apparent upscaling?

Or has it always been this good and I just remembered it being a bit more drab and less vibrant? The colors are popping more than I ever remembered, I can see more jaggies than I remember too, but the image overall does look a lot sharper and most textures appear higher quality than I remember. I could be completely crazy, which is quite likely, but did something happen in an update over the years, or does Wii VC actually upscale and vWii doesn't or what? WHAAAAAAAT

well using wiiu even on vwii gets a tiny bit upscalling but nothing much, your probably used to play the pal game in like 480i and now your seeing it in 480p if you used usa iso or forced progressive.

I'm using the same ROMs I've been using for years (which I think were NTSC NA ROMs), but I've always hit force progressive mode and wide screen, all the settings and ROMs are the same as I've been using for 3 or 4 years now, that's why it caught me off guard so much. Even the menu of Nintendont looks a bit more clear and crisp.

Ok, this is my first question in gbatemp. I don't know how does this community works in gbatemp, but sorry in advance.
I've got the Nintendont forwarder in my wii u, and a ds4 (ps4 controller). I don't know why but the controller works in the menu, while in the games it doesn't. I have the native control option off and the controller.ini and still nothing. The games are metroid prime and mario sunshine. I've seen that this happens in wii but i want it to work in the forwarder. What do i must do? please help me, im getting frustated from this. I also have been searching threads and posts but haven't notice something that would help me

@FIX94: Is it possible to add an option to always use the SD card for config and saves? Would like to store all my saves on SD, but play the games from USB.
no, nintendont cant mount sd and usb at same time, only one device can be mounted so if your playing from isos on usb you cant mount the sd slot to save.

Hello! I'm trying to play super mario sunshine with my hori battle pad u (wii classic controller). However, whenever I do the button combination to do half pressed L and R buttons, it doesn't seem to work, mario stands in place and squirts. Does it have to do with the hori battle pad or am I doing something wrong? I am aware that the hori battle pad seems to switch the placement of the L and R buttons and ZL and ZR buttons. Does that have anything to do with it?
