I really think everyone is blowing this out of the waters.

Some ps4 and xbox ine games do the same crap.
You buy the game on disc and it says it needs 30gb install space then there is a day one update for 6gb which you have to have in order to play the game because it was ship half finish or with a ton of bugs.

So fron what they said it seems like nintendo devs are doing the same thing. This is noted by saying the digial game is unchange. You just download the full size when you download it.

This only becomes a problem because the switch doesnt have a big enough internal. So a sd card is needed.
I believe they said dragon quest was 32gb. Which one fit on the internal, so if you download it your need at lest a 64gb card in order to play.

So i really dont see what everyone is fussing about

To be honest, this sounds like Nintendo covering their asses for things already implemented. For instance, it saying the need for a card with a physical game could be talking about DLC. Can't get the full experience without the DLC, right?

What if this is being done because some games like.....Skyrim......will allow DLC/mods that are going to take up more than what's allowed in internal storage?
No. They are talking about game modes and stuff missing that SHOULD be in the cartridge, but due to "space limitations" you have to download them separately. It never mentioned DLC, in the articles they even specific about missing stuff on the cartridges due to the space thingy.

because you need more stuff apart from the game and the console

ffs, again, you cant compare optocal drives to nand reading. Blu ray games needs to install themselves on a hard drive because the loading timeswould be horrible and optical drive could get damaged on long playing sesions. Nand chips reading is much faster and doesnt suffer from that kind of stuff, but huh, yet another dude praising nintendo for stuff that shouldnt be a problem in the first place.

Also, ps4 games takes about, 10 seconds to install? and you can play them offline without day one patches, so no, nintendo is just being dumb and forcing internet to enjoy the full game.

Are we sure they aren't just talking about needing the extra space? Because obviously you will at one point or another anyway. Also a 32GB mSD is like $10, and everybody has mSDs already. "Requiring" one is not much of a hurdle to jump. Plus it's not like you only get unlocked content by buying an mSD, they're a product unto themselves that work with tons of devices.

Publishers get away with publishing broken games because people will preorder anything and everything just for a stupid character skin. They need to stop it. Publishers worth their salt would not publish broken garbage on PS1 or Wii, etc, but they do so now. Remember Battlefield 4 and Master Chief Collection? Everyone thinks that online distribution is a panacea. But what happens when download servers are pulled forever? People should wise up and realize that the best we can do nowadays in terms of game preservation is physical discs, and so we should expect those versions to work on day 1.

This has been done for a while. Late games on the Xbox 360 required you to install the game before playing. I don't understand why people are surprised. It's 2017 and games aren't a couple hundred megabytes anymore.

What some people don't understand is that this is a big deal in the long run.
1)This means years from now you are out of luck if you want to play a switch game and they shut off the online shop for the Nintendo switch. Which will happen as I think they did this for the DSI.
2)The affected games wont hold any value years from now when they shut off store services and your trying to sell it. Like we do with other retro console.
3)This just plays harder to the fact that we do not own our games anymore we are just renting them for an undisclosed amount of time which is a shame.

Nintendo was the last one that gave you the full game on what ever media it happened to be on. At least up until the Wii since I didn't get a Wii U I can't speak on that but I assume the full game came on the disc as well. I am hoping now more than ever that the console get busted open at some point so that full backups are possible. Not for piracy but for it to act as a safety blanket for the consumer to have a fall back for their purchased games. I do hope that this will not affect most of the Nintendo switches games.

You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them.
You were to bring balance to consoles, not leave it in darkness!

I disagree. Compared to pressed Bluray discs, NAND carts are expensive to manufacture. Bluray games cost about $1 to manufacture. NAND is at least 10x that for the same capacity. If a game is both on Switch and PS4/Xbox One at the same price, then the publisher would prefer you not buy the game for Switch due to profit margins.
Although Switch games also cost more, so it balances out.

I guess this is their "solution" to games that need more than 32 GB of space and so won't fit on a normal cart.
Although I hope this doesn't become a common thing. I'm not ready to put a 400GB MicroSD card in my Switch (they cost almost as much as the Switch itself, jeez)
A 128GB should hopefully be enough for my needs.

Xbox One and PS4 are in a similar situation, if not worse than this. Sure, they don't require external storage, but you MUST install the whole game before you can play it, and while you wait, well you get to look at the menus at least.

This so much. At this point why do we even need the discs anymore. They are just a nuisance. I have the game installed on my system but I have to switch discs to play them. Ridiculous. I'm conflicted. With the way everything is set up you can still play and resell your game by the disc but with updates and downloads and content you don't even get the full experience anymore.
