All the recent XL I saw were TN. All the Pikachu ones I saw were TN. Black Friday small ones were all TN too.
hrmm this could be a problem, if we could get 3dsident on it wed know for sure,

last night i decided to install it and to my surprise i apparently have dual ips small n3ds after being convinced that i had a top tn and bottom ips

I knew they were TN just by looking at them. I have some IPS uppers. I ran 3DSident on them all and they all showed TN.

dunno where people got this idea that TN = bad quality screens when they have faster refresh rate (better for fast paced gameplay), better blacks and are more energy efficient (making battery last longer)
only thing ips has going for it is the better viewing angles, but who gives a fck about that shit anyway
i hold my system in front of my eyes when playing not sideways
I usually use TN system, because they are less bright. Easier on the eyes at night. IPS has so much better color.

I noticed right away something was better about my top screen when I started playing on the N3DS XL. Did some research to find out it was an IPS screen. It has more contrast, seems sharper. I picked up my O3DS XL with TN screens yesterday to apply the new boot9 and noticed the screens were not as crisp, almost slightly out of focus compared to the IPS. That may differ with other people but I enjoy using the IPS screen more.

Would following dev.3ds.guide be applicable here?
As already mentioned, it won't work, because you can't downgrade the New 2DS LL firmware to 0.23.5 (all the other models work fine with that one).

Can you check if sighax is patched?
It's what Pablo already suggested, by letting me contact the right person for this, so now I'm waiting for that.

This actually makes sense when you think about it.
2DS required a firmware update to add support for the different hardware. So did the New 3DS.
There's no reason to think the New 2DS won't be the same. Although the only real difference is that the screen is 2D, which the 2DS does as well, so it may be supported without changes to firmware. But existing firmware might be made with the assumption that all "New" models have a 3D screen. Plus the 2DS had a single screen, not 2 separate 2D screens like the New 2DS, which may mean that the existing firmware changes to support the 2DS screen can't be used for the New 2DS (depends on whether the screen access is handled in firmware, or on a separate chip)
But most of that is just speculation. Past experience suggests that the New 2DS probably will require firmware changes.

I just pre-ordered and I have no regrets. I'm entering the 3DS party late (there's still beer and chips right?). My reason is I want a new console, and perhaps I will look into buying a O3DS or N3DS second hand.

Still a heavy user of my NDS-Lite.

Its always nice to hear about breakthroughs in the firmware scene.

Best,

So I've got a New 2DS LL now (photos here).

However, I've noticed that this New 2DS LL came with a firmware version that's currently not available yet.
Although the firmware is still part of the 11.x series, it's still one newer than 11.4.
I can't verify which one exactly, but Dev Menu shows 0.25.18.
Firmware 11.4 is 0.25.5, while 11.3 is 0.25.4, and so on.

While I didn't try to install an CFW on it yet, neither I tried any other hacking on it, I did try to run an older version of SystemUpdater (which should usually downgrade the firmware), but it gave me an error while trying to launch it.
This serves as a hint to the inability to downgrade the firmware.

I hope this helps to those of you who want to get this device at launch.
I wouldn't say to not buy it at all (it really is a lovely device), I do advise the average Homebrew/CFW user to wait a bit longer.
try using a hardmod to install b9s i was thinking about pickin one up but only if b9s are not patche

Hmm, I tried to post this earlier but it didn't work...
This is from the NDA site, so I probably shouldn't share this, but I think I'll be fine ;)
The new 2dsxl (aka the JAN) was described as having the "same screen color an saturation" as the n3ds xl, which I find interesting as they never pointed that out anywhere else for any other system. But as we all know the n3dsxl was a gamble of what screen type you receive.
