I'm pretty sure Hedgeberg has already said that he won't make the bootrom public, only just the tools and documentation of how it works and how to do so.

This will mean that only someone who actually follows the documentation and the instructions on how to dump the bootrom will be able to dump it themselves and then shares it online through a torrent client.

So wait. Is this a sign that sighax is very very close to being released? Or is this just a proof of concept?
What's likely to happen is that he'll release that installer but not sighax or the bootrom.
d0k3 already made an installer so I don't really see the usefulness.

It's up to hedgeberg or gateway to release sighax and/or boot9.

Well... I just hope that derrek and/or hedgeberg will find a way to release a sighax installer without the need for a bootrom. The legal problems associated with releasing the bootrom definitely for sure get in the way.
I'm pretty sure that's what Hedgeberg is trying to figure out, is releasing a tool that can easily allow people to dump their bootrom, or release sighax installer without the need of a bootrom. I'm pretty sure he has already said that he won't release the bootrom, once he manages to dump it.

Why do they care so much about the legalities? Who leaked the keys in aeskeydb.bin? Did they care this much, or did they just do it?

Maybe they perceive the entire bootrom to be more valuable to Nintendo than a bunch of console specific AES ke....nevermind. I'll go back to acquiring more nip.

Some people prefer to be better safe than sorry. As for aeskeydb.bin, the keys only got leaked by someone who already shares 3DS ROMs in the scene.

Not to post anything on topic, or anything, but here's a little writeup I made.
Yeah good luck getting people to stop claiming sighax will suddenly make the 3ds boot up android and iOS because....well sighax duhhhhhh!!!! This has been repeated on pretty much every page and someone immediately comes and says it 10 minutes later

Oh well at least we can just copy paste your explanation to people now so they can read up better

I guess one additional note you could make on there is how sighax can/probably will ultimately just be used in a very similar manner to a9lh I.e loading a arm9loaderhax payload from the sd, I still see quite a few people saying stuff like "sighax is not good because you need to bruteforce a firm every FW update, so it's more likely to cause bricks"

Hedge has said on stream that he intends to release a bit of software, likely referring to 3ds homebrew software, that would allow us to all dump the boot rom ourselves.

Added "A public sighax release will likely do exactly what arm9loaderhax does -- load a payload off of the SD card, and then launch it."

And, yeah, that's another misconception (but already addressed in writeup) - sighax is one signature that's valid for EVERY firm, not the ability to brute force for individual firms.

yeah im pretty sure there isn't a legal reason not to release sighax itself, the signature required to perform the exploit is not copywritten work its just a header that exploits a flaw in the checking routine, so the "but the bootrom is illegal" argument is kinda only applicable if you share the actual bootrom, I guess its more of an ethical concern for Derrek

*below is more theoretical applications for the full bootrom dump*

that said it would be very beneficial to the likes of emulator devs and for game modding tools being able to directly read 3ds roms without decrypting on a 3ds first, I guess it would also mean people could make a powersaves type device for modding saves on the pc without access to a already hacked system etc I would imagine a Arduino or something could be used to interface with a 3ds save chip (afaik its just normal spi to read/write the save chip on most games so I would imagine for those people concerned it would be fairly easy to implement once all the keys etc are dumped)

Like I said before, random anon with a random torrent. Just saying
somebody(not hedge/darek or anyone out there that's big with stuff to loose) will do it for sure, I'm sure dsp is floating around out there somewhere on the bay ;) even though it's stupidly easy to dump
