I share the same problem with you guys (NTSC-J bricked it with Super Paper Mario-U)

If any of us find the game that has a japanese wii update on a game, be sure to post it back here.

I've tried Donkey Kong Taru racing (J) and it does not have any update.

Thank god for whoever created this thread, it's really great to find a place to land and have people sharing the same problem & info.

I have a semibricked Wii too due to BBA (screwed up on the third day i bought it, how stupid and can't help it sinc ei'm really a noob when it comes to all these games things.....)

Anyway, while waiting for the new firmware for japanese version, can someone help me (the noob) with some questions that i've been wondering?

1. how do you differentiate a PAL game & NTSC game? for japanese version of modded wii, should we play PAL or NTSC?

2. once i've known whether it's PAL or NTSC, how do i know where to get that iso?

3. once i have the iso, do i just run brickblocker before i burn it?

sorry & thanks for your time for answering my queries!!

1. Where do you get your games from? If its from a shop, ask the sales man. If its online...the release name would say.

2. I dont think that can be answered.

3. Thats probably just a good idea as a precaution.

Question....

Does anyone feel as though a lot of the *Imported* NTSC/PAL games on the JAP semibricked-Wii dont run in 480p?

I've noticed that my Resident Evil 4 (NTSC) and Mario Strikers (PAL) look really blurry on my LCD TV. I have had a component cable for a long time and I think these games should look a lot sharper than they do on my Wii

@ 1ns4nity - Yes, and not just on semi-bricked wii's either.
My JPN Wii is fine, but when I run the USA version of Resident Evil 4 on it on my LCD TV (Sharp Aquos) with component cables it looks ridiculously blurry compared to my PS2 version, so there's no way I think that it's running in 480p.

don't forget about mario strikers charged and super smash bros.

if they don't work on my ntsc-j, i'm going to sell it and get an ntsc-u instead which is $100 more expensive here

any news on when Big Brain Academy would be working?

Ahhhh! I put Mario Strikers Charged US into my Japanese Wii and some weird progress bar popped up, so I ejected the disc and then, when I went back in to my Wii Settings, all it does is go to an Opera Screen!! I performed a Wii System Update and it was up to date with 2.2J before I inserted the game, but still this happened! Damn it... Add me to the list of people waiting for the Next JP Update tacked on to a Game. );

Great thread. I just got my japanese WII today. It was a gift. Zelda(ntsc-U) works for me. But Super Swing Golf (ntsc-U) doesn't. The game shows up and when I start it the screen goes black and after that the WII resets. The list says it should be compatible. I only used the brickblocker on the iso. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanx.

Anyone tried it successfully with brick blocker?

That's bad. Why is this game shown compatible on http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=Wi...C-J_.28Japan.29?

Yes, it's because the game was shown as compatible that I didn't pay any heed... Since then, I've tried to edit the Compatibility List Wiki to reflect my woes so that no one else suffers the same fate, but my changes to it don't seem to show up.

Yeah I can confirm that Mario Strikers Charges NTSC-USA can brick your Wii even if you have 2.2J!!!

I also cannot edit the compatibility list. My Wii Settings Page was bricked because it was listed there as having no issues with the JAP Wii so I did not bother to use BrickBlocker anymore.

This serves as a lesson that you should always use brick-blocker on every import game.

How can I fix this semi-bricked Wii? Can it still be fixed? Thanks

EDIT: I read that Forever Blue(NTSC-J) comes with an update. http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=Wi...TSC-U_.28USA.29
Can this fix the inaccessible settings page???

I'll give it a try, pkrulzzz, but I doubt it'll help. If it does contain an update, it's probably just the same 2.2J update and won't install because the 2.2U update is newer. At any rate, let you know how it goes...

I will definitely use brickblocker on any game from now on. Too bad the list isn't trustworthy.

Can anybody confirm to me that Super Swing Golf (ntsc-U) works on japanese WII? I would love to play this. I used brickblocker and the game shows up but when i start it it just reboots my WII.

Anyone?

BTW the wiki seems to be updated concerning Mario Strikers.

Yup, I updated the Wiki and it finally went through. I have Super Swing Golf, so I'll try that for you when I try Forever Blue.

Forever Blue performs no update whatsoever on a Semi-Bricked Wii and now, in the hopes that others don't end up with Bricked Wii's like ours, I'd like to pass on some tidbits and information including things I had questions about, but were never answered by anyone when I asked that may have prevented my own brickage.

When I put in Mario Strikers Charge, there was no picture visible in the Disc Channel, although I am unsure whether it didn't recognize the disc because it contained the update or because the Wii just didn't have enough time to read the disc yet, though I'd guess it's the latter because...

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN TRYING A NEWLY RELEASED GAME OUTSIDE YOUR REGION

The Firmware UPDATE IS APPLIED when you enter the DISC CHANNEL and, rather than a wallpaper of the game being picture in the Disc Channel's Background, a singular Blank Disc is displayed as the update attempts to apply itself. A "POP-UP WINDOW" appears on the screen telling you that the game needs to apply the Firmware Update before it can be played. This message will appear based on your Wii's Native Language, not on the game with the Firmware Update that is being applied; that is a Japanese Wii has the UPDATE MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN JAPANESE, NOT ENGLISH, a North American Wii will display the message in English.

It will not ask you whether or not you want to proceed with the update, the UPDATE IS APPLIED AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU ENTER THE DISC CHANNEL after a second dialog box pops-up with a progress bar that begins to make a dinging sound, much like when you attempt a Firmware Update through the Wii's Settings or when you're Testing your Wi-Fi Connection through your Wii. If you are able to EJECT THE DISC as this message pops up and BEFORE THE UPDATE BEGINS applying itself, you may be able TO PREVENT your Wii from BRICKING.

Remember, even if you have the LATEST FIRMWARE for your Wii, it CAN STILL GET BRICKED. Just keep an Eagle Eye out when you're trying new Out of Region Games, especially First Party Nintendo games, so you aren't added to the hitlist of suckers who bricked their Wii's because of Nintendo's faulty design.

The update doesn't start till you click "OK" on the popup. If you eject the disc before you press OK, nothing will happen. You could also just turn off your Wii. I thought this was obvious, but appearantly it isn't.
