R4i-sdhc never worked on the 3ds so it still requires TWL Slot 1 Launcher iirc

Actually, the R4i SDHC is a fairly recent card. The Acekard 2i is much older, and it works. I'd be genuinely shocked if it needs the launcher. Especially since I have a cheap clone of it that the vendor who sold me my Sky+ just threw in for free, and it doesn't need the launcher. Does need a newer menu than the one on the fake site, though. In fact I think it will work with that DS forwarder channel app. AFAIK, the only things that need the launcher are ancient relics like the M3 Real (speaking of which, I should drag mine out and try it sometime).

en error has occured bla blah... :(
do i still need to install twl_firm?

You don't need patched TWL_FIRM, but you do need to make sure it's the newest version. Also, if your system's ever been downgraded to 4.5, it could be messed up. So, you might try installing the unmodified latest version if it's not working, just to see.

can't we update our nightlies with lumaupdate?

I believe you can. Most of the updater apps I'm aware of do support the nightlies. Not everyone likes the idea of updaters on their 3DS though.

So I got told today that RxTools is dead (why?) and that I should switch to this CFW.

My questions are, how can I change CFW from RxTools to this?

I have a o3DS. I use ctrboot manager to load RxTools, but apparently, using crtboot to load Luma3DS makes some games unplayable like smash (according to the wiki) which I play a lot.

What's the best course of action to take?

What's the best course of action to take?

  1. Delete all RXTools files and folders.
  2. Copy the luma files and folders to the sd card
  3. If you're using CTRBoot9, change the config so that RXTools isn't an entry, and that Luma is. it's simple to do, just point the boot file to luma3ds.dat or whatever it's called
  4. If you're using ntr, copy the proper firmware.bin file
  5. Launch
I just switched form RxTools the other day. Also, you can fix the smash issue if you read the wiki page on GitHub

If you have A9LH, why the heck would you use the .dat or .3dsx files? Paste the arm9loaderhax.bin at the root of the SDcard AS WELL AS the "luma" folder and you're done.

I can't access the eshop, it tells me to update but I have the latest fw version, does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?

What makes it noobproof?
These days, nothing is noob proof. I think the meaning behind "Noob Proof" is as a comparison to CakesFW. In Cakes, you need to enable patches individually and Cakes requires special firm and key files to work. Luma3ds doesn't need any additional files to work and has signature checks and a9lh firmprot patches enabled by default. Obviously, Luma3ds isn't noob proof in the fact that you can just go into GodMode9 and delete nand.bin to save some more space on your nand. Luma3ds can't be Dumbass Proof™.

"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." - Rick Cook

Initial installation could be as simple as "copy a file to an SD card and you're done", yet someone would manage to screw it up by jamming an M2 Memory Stick in the MicroSD slot and wonder why it's not working. (EDIT: Or, misreading this post and copying Luma3DSv5.4.7z to the SD card of a completely unhacked 11.0 3DS and wondering why it isn't loading.)
