Well the differences are that Cakes is generally more modular, so you don't have to update the whole firmware to update parts of it or add a new feature to it

There's 10.4 firm which is currently only supported by nightlies (which aren't stable) and 10.3 uses 10.2's firm, so if you want a stable experience then use the 10.2 firm (to be clear you can still update to 10.5 with it) OP doesn't have a guide for it but it isn't hard (just place the files where they need to go, enable the correct patches and go from there)

you can keep all of your CIAs, they're installed on the SD card so they're safe

Is there a spoofer I can use for now to spoof 10.2 to 10.5? Thanks for all of your help.

Hello. I am coming here in hope of some help.
In fact, earlier today I installed 10.5 firmware on my Emunand EUR N3DS, CakesFW worked really fine but my brother had the brilliant idea to update my Sysnand to 10.5 too and now I can't even boot in Emunand using CakesFW.
So my question is: Is CakesFW supposed to work even when Sysnand AND Emunand are both on 10.5 ? Sorry if that would seem to you like a very dumb question but I'm not really wise on that subject.
I tried by the way to install the 128 and 125 versions of CakesFW but to no success, I always have the same result, a black screen.

Thank you for your time.

PS: Sorry if my english is bad.

SysNAND 9.2 and below only for CFW. Your only options now:
A) Wait for a new full system control exploit, which would let you have CFW on 10.5 (not likely to happen for a very, VERY long time, if ever)
B) Wait for a new ARM 11 kernel exploit so you can downgrade to 9.2 (similar to how 10.3 is able to downgrade)
C) Get a hard mod done and restore your sysNAND backup (you did make one, right?)
D) Get a hard mod done and do the WIP downgrade trick that lets you go from 10.4 NATIVE_FIRM to 10.2 NATIVE_FIRM, then downgrade via safesysupdater.

Oh I see, thank you for your reply.
I don't really know what a hard mod is but I'll try to search for it. I did back up my Sysnand and Emunand too as some people warned me to do that.

A hard mod is when your 3DS gets modified to have a port soldered onto it (usually microUSB or some JIS port), along with a custom port-to-SD adapter, so that you can have the NAND interface with a PC's SD card reader. It then lets you backup and/or restore your NAND as desired, meaning you can downgrade or recover from bricks.

Huuuh, I see, I don't really want to modify my New3DS... Thank you for your reply anyway, guess I'll have to wait for some "fixes".

You'll be waiting for a long time then, most likely. You could also consider selling your N3DS and getting another one (though at this stage in the game you'd probably have to downgrade from 9.3+ to get emuNAND on that).

No need to spoof, you're just using the 10.2 FIRMWARE, just go into system setting and update emuNAND to 10.5, it'll work just fine ;)

Now im confused lol. I thought if I updated through system settings i'd lose the ability to use CFW? Sorry if this is a newb question. I just want to be sure I don't lose the ability to use CFW or brick my N3ds.

well the point of emuNAND (which is an emulated, second NAND on your SD card) is to have the latest system version (currently 10.5) while keeping your sysNAND (system NAND, this is the actual chip on the 3DS circuit board) at an exploitable FW (<9.3) ;)

manual AGB_FIRM patching works ;) also there is support for patching it, but no one actually has made a .cake to do so (well I have one that I can't exactly test, if you like you can test if you have an o3ds :) )

i don't want to risk bricking my 3ds can i only agb patch the emunand instead of doing sysnand

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i get blackscreen when i try to use ds games
You don't want the risk... stay on official firmware. Simple as that, there's ALWAYS a risk when playing with modified firmware/files etc on any console. That's the nature of the game. :)

AGB patch needs to go to Sysnand as GBA VC reboots the device into GBA firmware. So patch it and play GBA VC or don't do it and don't play GBA VC. Try emulating maybe.
