With EmuNAND or sysNAND?

The instructions on the gateway website say to use sysNAND, so I'm going to assume you mean sysNAND too.

Whenever I press SELECT after booting into sysNAND I get 'filesystem error'. (I've tried both exfat and fat32, and two different microSD cards)

When I boot into gateway mode normally (no NVRAM install, no holding 'B'), pressing SELECT works as it should

Background: Both emuNAND and sysNAND are on untouched 9.0.0-20E. I've just been following the gateway guide so far. (Ignoring the Restoring NAND and updating emuNAND part)
Yep, sysNAND; I put that at the top of the instructions. :P
That's odd that the rom menu works in emuNAND, but not sysNAND. Try this tool: https://gbatemp.net/threads/gateway-3ds-microsd-tool.369165/ to see if that solves your problem.

Have a question for those of you using Ninjhax and importing games.(I assume Ironhax will more or less run mostly the same way.) What's listed in your play log for the out of region games, and if it does have Streetpass what's listed in your Streetpass games list when the game activates it(I.E. Can you delete it from your Streetpass list if you want to?) The only things I can find are that some people talk about games not showing up at all on the play log, some games appear but without a name or anything though they do have their own section, and some just add time to Cubic Ninja, though I haven't heard of Japanese games getting Japanese titles for example. The only information I could find regarding out of region Streetpassing is from the RegionThree compatibility list that mentions certain games being able to Streetpass with their region just fine even though the game is not of their region.

Oh, and is the compatibility still the same as it was with RegionThree, or has it gotten better?

No, that's just a normal DS flash card. I've never heard of that brand, but you most likely won't be able to use it to play DS games on a 3DS either (unless a new update is available for that card or you manage to patch your 3DS to run blocked DS flash cards).

Your best shot with a 3DS on 6.10 (without buying anything) is the rxTools CFW. This guide on the forum should explain everything you need to know on how to install it: http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/

The cheapest way to do that is to. Find a game that updates your 6.4 3ds to <=9.2.0 install emuNAND and FBI to install cia's install a X or Y (witch ever your daughter prefers) and buy the other one for yourself

Mixed results with the tool. It basically always finds an error. (I'll scan, fix and then scan again and it will find that same error.)

Setup a third microSD card with a brand new USB adapter, and did a FULL format of my new microSD card.

Now I can get as far as:
launching Dev Menu in sysNAND and getting a 'The Game Card was removed' error now. OR
black screen after starting Dev Menu

EDIT:
I can get into BBM, can I just use that to install the mset.cia? The Gateway instructions say to only use Dev Menu.

EDITx2:
I decided to go for it:
While inside emuNAND (because I'm too afraid to play in the sysNAND without
instructions) I booted up BBM and tried importing mset_eur.cia.
'This cia is invalid'
0xD8E08027

Just for clarification, I'm supposed to use the RED card to launch dev menu right?

EDITx3: Reading through the dialogue between you and riggs. Looks like I'm going to trying FBI now.
NVM, FBI gives me a similar error too. (I just put the fbi.3ds in the red card)

Hey guys, I've got 2 N3DS consoles, one is the normal sized one (FW 9.0) and the other is the XL (FW 9.9). I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer the firmware from the N3DS to the N3DSXL, even with a HW mod?

As far as I know, there isn't much of a reason not to update your emunand to 9.9. If you do, you will be able to download Ironfall. I did it myself on my emunand.;)

I'm not expert in the 3DS scene, but I'm going to say NO.

If you had a backup of the XL's NAND on an earlier f/w then you could flash it back down, but trying to flash the NAND from a different console definitely won't work.

BBM won't work for this unfortunately. DevMenu and FBI should work, but I was actually having an issue with FBI as well.

I actually messed up my N3DS last night and had to go through a long process of reinstalling the mset cia on sysNAND because the Gateway QR code for CN wasn't working. Maybe what I did will work for you as well.

1. Set up Ninjhax 1 on CN.

2. Grab PastaCFW and FBI and set them up for Ninjhax.

3. Convert the DevMenu rom to a .cia (DevMenu can either be a .csu or a .3ds, either extension will work. I'd recommend Riku's Simple CIA Converter for this. https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-3ds-simple-cia-converter.384559/).

4. Boot Pasta with Ninjhax; launch Ninjhax again while in Pasta and boot FBI.

5. Install the DevMenu.cia with FBI (Install location should be set to SD).

6. Reboot your N3DS.

7. Boot back into Pasta and launch DevMenu.

8. Use DevMenu to install the mset.cia.

9. Reboot again.

10. Check your system settings to ensure they've been downgraded.

11. Done!

I followed the Pasta guide, and installed the BBB.cia, and that worked. (Now I need to get rid of this. No point in having both this and DevMenu)

I tried using FBI to install the mset.cia but that didn't work. So now I'm trying to convert DevMenu.3ds to .cia.

Using Riku's Converter I managed to generate a ncchinfo.bin, but that's where I'm stuck.

'Use rxTools along with created 'ncchinfo.bin' to generate ExHeader XORpads, put it in root of SD card, launch rxTools and follow 'Decryption Options-->Generate Xorpads'

How do I 'use' rxTools? Do I need to build them? (ie. Install Cygwin?)

You don't actually need to use rxTools for this, you just need to generate the xorpads. Decrypt9 will work for this. https://gbatemp.net/threads/download-decrypt9-wip-3dsx-launcher-dat.388831/ After downloading it, extract it and put the folder named Decrypt9 inside the 3ds folder for Ninjhax. Do not use the ncchinfo.bin from Riku's tool, it won't work with Decrypt9. Instead generate the ncchinfo.bin by dragging the DevMenu rom onto the ncch_gen.py file in the scripts folder of the Decrpy9 download. Place that ncchinfo.bin on the root of your N3DS's mSD. Boot Ninjhax and run Decrpy9. Press A to generate the ncch xorpads. You will probably see a message that says seed.db pad generation failed; ignore this. You should now have two xorpad files on the root of your mSD. Cut and paste them into the xorpad folder of the Simple CIA Converter. Now run the Simple CIA Converter and click Convert 3DS ROM to CIA. Select the folder and it should finish. Check the cia folder and you should now have a DevMenu.cia.

Everything worked well, up until the point where I had to install the newly creately .cia file

I just followed the Pasta guide, and made sure to put title.db and import.db in dbs directory.

What would happen if I ripped the Cubic Ninja ROM and converted it into a CIA and use that to boot into Gateway mode? (Since installing DevMenu is not working.) Could I follow the same steps to convert Dev Menu for the Cubinc Ninja Rom?

(When I tried converting Cubic Ninja, I got 4 XORPAD files, and the resulting .cia file was 82.7MB does that look right? - Safe to install?)

On your N3DS's mSD inside the Nintendo 3DS folder you should see a folder (two if you've seperated emuNAND) that looks like a bunch of random hex characters. Inside that folder should be a second folder that looks similar. Inside the second folder you need to create a folder called dbs. Inside the dbs folder create two files called import.db and title.db. Go to System Settings, Data Management, Nintendo 3DS, Software. It should tell you that there is a corruption, let it repair the database files and FBI should work after that.

Already done. When I open up software title list, I just see a '?' taking 0 blocks. (I did the repairing part as part of the guide to install BBB)

EDIT:

GOT IT WORKING!

Downloaded the DevMenu.3ds from the gate-way website, (instead off of the Youtube Guide I found) and installing the mset.cia worked like a charm!

Now to format emuNAND again, and remove the BBB.CIA from my sysNAND.

The warning on the Gateway website: "Running a DS ROM or DS application will remove the DS Profile Exploit from your system and will require you to reinstall it."

By that they mean DS games/homebrew? So as long as I don't run anything that the 3DS will treat as a DS game, I won't run into any problems?
