It seems to me many users do not understand software release cycles, and are giving Gateway a lot of unnecessary hate for their BETA test. There is a difference between a beta test and a release candidate- this is the former. A BETA test does not necessarily have to be feature complete, and it does not have to work flawlessly. A release candidate on the other hand typically is feature complete and is being tested for completion and last minute usability/stability. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what a BETA test means, so I'm just hoping to shed some light on this.
There have been users calling the claims the Gateway team made "fraudulent" - which is completely false and reeks of ignorance. A promised feature for the full release does not need to exist in the BETA test. They are testing one specific exploit (The web browser exploit) with this BETA test. It has been less than two months since the announcement of New 3DS support and a 9.2 exploit being released, which is a completely reasonable and justifiable pace in which to develop their code.
Additionally, they are working on two separate exploits simultaneously (The web browser exploit as well as the Mii exploit). It makes sense that the first part of the BETA test would include the portion of the software which affected the largest number of users/consumers from a business standpoint as well as a customer relations standpoint. The pessimistic, entitled, or otherwise ignorant members of these forums have been saying things like "It will never be released" and "OOOH but it won't have emunand!" and even back before gateway Omega was released people have been doubting the gateway team unfairly, "They'll never release multirom" and so on. However they have always delivered in the past on all of their promises. Even the time frame that garyopa announced leading up to the release of 3.0 was completely within the bounds one can expect from software development teams. ETAs are HARD, it is incredibly difficult for even very experienced teams to know what will happen because humans are not perfect. It is not possible to see into the future and know about every error or bug that could possibly be encountered along the way.
And especially to users saying they bought a new 3ds just for the promise of being able to use it:
THAT EXPLOIT CLEARLY ISN'T FINISHED YET. NOBODY IS BEING SLIGHTED. THE POINT OF THE BETA TEST IS TO FOCUS ON THE EXISTING WEB BROWSER EXPLOIT. NEVER SPEND MONEY ON SOMETHING BEFORE IT IS ACTUALLY IN THE STATE YOU WANT IT TO BE IN. (See: Kickstarter, game preorders)
I'm definitely just going to be ignored and called a Gateway fanboy or told that my opinion is invalid because I don't have a New 3DS. I am not writing this post because I can't stand the gateway team being insulted, I'm writing it because I can't stand the level of ignorance in this thread.
tl;dr - be patient, learn what a BETA TEST is, and don't count your chickens before they hatch
