Finally
But "Horo" is just a bit of engrish. It's meant to be "Holo".

I don't think it would be possible for them to add in an option for you to switch between "Horo" and "Holo", as that would require adding code into the game. When you say "Version choice", do you mean 2 separate versions of the game, one for weeaboos and one for the people who want the official name?

If you need proof that it's "Holo" and not "Horo", it has been confirmed by Yen Press (The people who hold the license for the LNs) that it's "Holo", and the character spelt her name as "Holo" in the second season.

Wanting Horo instead of Holo, is like prefering Luffy's name to be Ruffy, japanese people are bad at saying L's, my japanese teacher has been living in my country for a while now and she told us that it was very difficult for her to get used to the L sound, since that's a sound they don't originally have.

My name for example, my Japanese friends call me Pauro, but my name doesn't have an R, it has an L.

In some cases it's hard to figure out which name is right or wrong, however once there's an official clarification, I see no point to keep insisting on the wrong one. =O

some people who have some sense, all of these purists were driving me crazy.

Also if Suruz reads this could we get progress report?

Horo literally means "Bitch" in finnish. With Spice and Wolf for some reason both Horo and Holo have became popular versions, technically Holo is better choise even when you listen to name pronounced it sounds like Horo.

Just created an account here to say to the people working on the project a big thank you and that I look forward to the end product...as I'm sure there are many others do as well. Though i may not have the relevant experience, like anything, I should be able to pick it up quickly. If there's any way I can contribute, just let me know! :yaysp:

Keep it up! :yay:

Boy, I came all the way here and made a profile just to tell you this.

Keep up the good work. I've been a Spice and Wolf Addict for some time now, and having this game be completed would be the icing on the cake!

Also: I like how using my email automatically changed my profile pic to Lawrence. Neato.

Why do some places call Horo "Holo"? It's very annoying seeing it spelled wrong. :/ Like everyone calling Aeris from Final Fantasy 7 "Aerith", when her name is really Aeris.

A) Would it be beneficial for you, suruz, if we were able to throw some crowdfunding together as an incentive and possibly a way to help ease off some other commitments you've certainly had to focus on in order to support yourself?

B) The author has officially stated that the name is Holo, with an L. How her name is *pronounced* is irrelevant unless someone is also planning on getting voice actors and doing a dub (is the game even voiced? I have no idea). It's still officially spelled Holo, and thus the translation should abide by the official ruling, as it were.

it saddens me to say this as a spice and wolf fan who didn't get to read the entire story just the ending that this project seems to be stalled or dead or dropped its been 4 years already and we haven't heard progress in a while its safe to assume it had been dropped sorry guys your best chance is to take Japanese courses and play the games then unless someone can CONFIRM PROGRESS IS STILL UNDERWAY then we are pretty much screwed

First of all, I apologise for being completely inactive and silent for the past few years (jeez, has it really been that long? Sigh)

The truth is that no progress has been made on the project in that time. There isn’t one driving reason behind this, but it has been a combination of:
- lack of motivation and communication between me and translators
- other commitments taking priority, pushing this to the side
- my full-time job taking up the majority of my time

As one translator working on the project has been super busy with college classes and the other is not available as much nowadays, it just hasn't been practical trying to keep up with a proper translation project. We were too ambitious, and it just doesn’t seem realistic anymore with such a tiny team.

I will do my best to get the translated files into some kind of release-ready form. This might be a patch, written script (txt) files OR possibly subbed video files. It would be a shame for the initial progress to be completely lost, even though it would be nowhere near a finished product.
Again, sorry to anyone who we might have disappointed. This post wasn't meant to try and justify anything, but I thought it might shed some light on why things didn't work out.

Ya, it has been a little bit suruz. :)
Thanks for clearing things up at the very least.
As a fan of Spice and Wolf, I thank you for your efforts so far. :)
If there is any way that we could help you.. or re-kindle your spirit for doing this.. let us know on the spice and wolf reddit page.
We fans are still around.. and I'm sure we'd be glad to help if we could.

maybe you could provide your source and programms you used and someone fdifferent finishes it in your name?

Here is the extractor program, to extract/repack the text files in the game. Manual here.

The program was made by jjewel, so hopefully she doesn't mind me posting it publicly (obviously I'll take it down otherwise.) Thanks again to her for putting the effort into making that.

As for what we've translated so far, I've uploaded all the raw text files and finished graphics here. BUT please keep in mind something in there caused the game to glitch whenever I repacked it, and I have no idea what. Every time I tried re-converting/packing those files, it resulted in a white screen/the game not running. I have no idea if this is to do with the files, or the program itself (there's no way of knowing, but it could easily be a mistake with the text files).

If anyone is willing to take this project over (using what we did as a starting point, if possible), please don't hesitate to do that. Unfortunately we will not be continuing ourselves. To the person who messaged me, money isn't really a factor here. We just don't have the time or motivation to work on something like this, with the other things on our plate at the moment. Thanks for your understanding.

Also if anyone does take this over, I'll just quote jjewel from 3 years ago (christ...):

However, I'm not sure if the current tool can handle any non-English text. There is a part of the codes that will be calculated based on 1 byte English alphabet (Ascii). So if your language needs some accent marks or anything outside Ascii codes, the tool won't be able to calculate it. (You can read back where I discussed about this code with tehwes. It's something not fully understandable yet.)

P.S. To [member='suruz'], make sure you occasionally insert your new translation and roughly play through it to make sure there isn't any problem with the tool. I haven't practiced programming lately and my skills get really worse. I might not be able to fix my own codes. So in case the tool has any problem, it's better that you detect it earlier.
