i wouldn't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. if there isn't a specific game you want to play that requires it, why not just hold out and hope for the best? nobody knows what the future will bring
did animal crossing need it? I click update data and it wouldnt allowed, unless I am in latest firmware..

If this info is true, then it means a CFW solution is entirely possible in the near future...
Nope, not without a bootrom flaw.

is install a Custom DS Mode Firmware, that has access to the 3DS hardware

Nope, the 3DS has no DS firmware. All handled by the 3DS firmware. The DS mode is completely sandboxed.

Wait until it is released. If it works like what i think (and know), then i can release more infos.

There are 2 different things.
First, many games need min. specific version of firmware (for most of present games it is max. 4.5, only exception is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros which needs 5.1) to run. If you have lower version, you will be asked to update before fist run.
Second, it is update of the game. Few games using that. Without latest update you are not able to play online. One is Mario Kart. Another will be Animal Crossing, but no update released yet. This update must be downloaded. To do that, you must be on the newest firmware. Always.
Btw. for Animal Crossing nothing will change if you update to 6.1 now. After update, when you will click this update button, you will receive msg that you have latest available version of game.

So, I saw that the Blue 3DS Card says it runs under DS mode. Does that still mean that it still can't run Homebrew in 3DS mode, even though it's a 3DS card?

It's just... I would really like to see a PC Port of Quake 3 to the 3DS. And since the NDS had like 4MB of ram, that would literally be impossible. :/ (Needs AT LEAST 64MB)

The bundled blue ds card, is in essence a standard DS cart capable of both DS backups and home brew for DS mode, tested to work on 6.1
Did they not state in their first FAQ that the cartridge would not run DS "backups"? Confused now.
- Can it run normal DS roms?
No, there are many alternative options for this.

So, I saw that the Blue 3DS Card
It's a blue DS cartridge, the red one is a 3DS cartridge.

It is NOT 3DS Card:

RED card would not run DS roms, BLUE one will.

kind of makes me wonder about the price tag. Maybe it is really reasonable since they are also giving you a ds mode cart. even though it probably wont be dstwo grade cart it is nice to know that you get that to.

Encouraging people to update? Bad idea... Also, I thought animal crossing was already released.

If you can, stay at 4.5 or less because there is no guarantee the Gateway will work on newer firmware. They are trying to create a fix right now. This should be obvious.

If playing online is a must for you, then just wait to see if the Gateway will catch up, but keep in mind it may not.
