First units to ship this week !
And a quick note to update our FAQ regarding the use of the "blue" card and recent title releases:

Can the blue card run DS home brew ?
YES :- The bundled blue ds card, is in essence a standard DS cart capable of both DS backups and home brew for DS mode, tested to work on 6.1

Is the blue card required for every power cycle ?
No :- Our custom Gateway Installer DS app is only required to be run once to setup and thereafter any time the console is used in DS mode.

Does Gateway support all games:
No :- Animal Crossing uses unique NAND based save hardware in the cart, support will be added through a GW firmware update. Mario (released last week) is forcing 5.1 update. We have prioritised work on supporting all such future releases. Stay tuned.

i Like the fact what the Gateway is, is a Alternative DS Mode Firmware that allows access to the 3DS Hardware, like the Linux for vWii that allows for the WiiU Hardware
but if you use the Normal DS Firmware you have to reinstall the "Gateway 3DS DS Mode" firmware
interesting stuff
need to play with one

the that is interesting thing will be to see

how the DS mode is "patch" to use 3ds mode hardware

people will try and make a homebrew app , thet could do the same thing as the blue card

also will Nintendo, be able tell if something is off with the 3ds/DS FW after it is changed

well the DS Firmware is able to be Bricked and the 3DS is none the wiser

Do you believe the gateway can run on 5.X or 6.X firmware?
What did they say so,only to sell more units or it may happen?

its not the fact if it can run on them because they wont

what it appears to do
is install a Custom DS Mode Firmware, that has access to the 3DS hardware
so it is running off a custom firmware, thats in DS Mode

meaning they can modify the firmware to allow for changes than the standard
e.g. saving to the 3DS SD card
so modifying it should be possible

So that I have a 3DS with latest 6.0.1.12 or so am I screwed?

I will have to wait for another exploit or hack?

I just bought it as 2nd hand with that firmware.

For the purposes of using the gateway you are indeed screwed, until somebody hacks 6.x. Dont expect gateway to do it.

Pretty exciting.
I personally won't be buying one (mostly because I already own most of the games gateway supports, and I don't have the required firmware :P)
But also because its not quite a homebrew cart and muti ROM cart.
But I support the team to the fullest and hope to see much more 3DS home brew development :grog:

No region free, so still no interest for me.

Region locking is the only reason I wanted one of these devices to be made. Hopefully they get around that soon and confirm region free for all games on all versions of the 3DS...

Speaking of which, since all the newer games are forcing the update I wonder how long it'll actually take them to get a fix for the later firmwares.

should I keep my version 5?

or it makes no difference now? =( if yes, might as well upgrade my 3ds, atleast better support from nintendo..

i wouldn't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. if there isn't a specific game you want to play that requires it, why not just hold out and hope for the best? nobody knows what the future will bring
