Google has recently released a new way to search. Instead of typing you can write with your finger tips! While it may not be as fast as dictation, it is a unique and innovative way to searching on mobile devices.. It really shows how much effort and money Google is investing into recognition technologies.

Below I have attached my video demonstrating the recognition technology.

Granted that does look a tiny bit better (although your writing is significantly better than my chicken scratch) but that they caught up with 90's palm computers is "unique and innovative"?

I could remember that the DSi's browser had an option to write letters by darwing them. It doesn't seem very different from what I've read.

I tried this, and I have to say, a touchscreen keyboard is so much faster and more convenient. Although interesting, this is totally useless.

It's cool and all but I have two problems with it.

1: its been done before, plenty of times before actually.

2: there's not really a point, writing things by hand in general is becoming less relevant every day.

I had an old dumb phone that was able to do this.

Just makes things a little more tedious IMO. Why take a couple of extra seconds to write the word when I can type it in half the time?

I guess this might appeal to older audiences that have troubles using the keyboard on their smart phone. I know my mother has some issues with her phone and maybe this would help.

Same verdict, I gave it a go but writing with your finger on a 2 inch wide smartphone screen doesn't really work all that well. Maybe it's better on a tablet, though I still think the keyboard would win in a fight. Handwriting would work for unusual characters that aren't usually on a keyboard though.

This might be alright using a capacitive stylus though. I know I'll be giving it a go later today with one and seeing if it's any faster.

Am I the only one that can't get it working? Chrome Beta on Android 4.0 on a Transformer Prime.
Using my Nook Color with CM7, I used the stock browser. Although it was somewhat laggy starting up (and actually started up randomly after a few attempts), it did work.
