This is a cool idea but I kinda wish Gbalpha would just fix what's wrong with the current firmware so we can all get back to using the M3 as normal with all of it's provided features(RTS, Soft Reset, Etc.)
It would be nicer for them to start over, as then they would be able to fix what's wrong with it without having to worry about messing something else up.

okay see here is the thing.
there is nothing wrong with sakura.
if lotus (lotos) is based around moonshell's look...it will essentially be the same thing as moonshell and sakura.
moonshell and sakura are basically the same thing anyway plus or minus a few things.
so really this is what should happen.
they really should just fix sakura and add more flexible options such as choosing what bootloader to use. like swapping between the ysmenu loader and the M3 Real loader.
on that same note, sakura should be heavily updated to support all of the media formats as moonshell.
i mean seriously how hard could it be to make sakura as clean performing as moonshell, they are practically the same thing. its like solid snake (Moonshell) and liquid snake (Sakura)
they are two slightly different fabrics, cut from the same cloth.
So in short, this is what needs to be done.
1. Make Sakura's scrolling as smooth as MoonShell's (especially during media playback)
2. Add cut, paste, and copy features alongside the delete function
3. Update the list of supported media formats to match Moonshell's
4. Make Album Art for music appear when a song is played in Sakura (like MoonShell)
5. Hell, just make Sakura have the same flexibility and versatility as Moonshell (and keep firmware updates regularly)
6. Add an Anti-Piracy "Clean Mode" similar to CycloDS (their hardware is far older than M3 Real/Zero's so i know its possible.)
7. Make a media enhanced flashcard, maybe even DSi-Mode (CycloDS i Evolution, iSmartMM or SuperCard DSTWO)
if gbalpha does those 7 things, I swear they will have the happiest user community possible

As I mentioned before setting up a hacked moonshell with inilink to wood or ysmenu would be much more easier. That would be a moonshell menu with the same support as my wood or Retro's YSM3.
And even if I start to work now I could done it about tomorrow if everything would gone as I planned.

Right now there aint much to expect right now, when even the other teammember has no real clue right now what is going on actually.
With that in mind, i do give a VOTE for the idea itself. I can imagine a lot of owners of a GMP-Z003 M3i would love an alternative firmware that gets updates.
But personally, I do not have many expectations right now till we know that this project is really gonna work and at best we would get some footage of that firmware itself.
Does this 'official' firmware have any approval of the M3 Team like maybe an e-mail and can we see it? I would not get too excited before they themselves anncoune it. Even if it's real, I suspect we will have to wait a long time before we at least get to use a beta, if they don't decide to drop it, that is.
And I would already be satisfied if that firmware had the same GUI as Sakura and the compatibility of Wood R4.

But in my opinion Wood has a very good compatibility so use that if you don't want to buy a new card..
