Hi

I have a PAL Wii on firmware 3.1E.

I have installed the homebrew channel, IOS36-64-v1042.wad, cios36-rev6 and backup launcher gamma 0.3 with 002 fix.

My questions are:

Would you recommend me upgrading my CIOS to a later version, and if so what version?
Would you recommend me upgrading my Wii firmware to the latest version and if so how would I go about that?

Thanks

S

1.) Yes, rev6 is pretty ancient. Update to rev14. Also update your backup launcher to NeoGamma R6.
2.) Yes, run Waninkoko's 4.1 updater.

Thanks for the info.
There are so many posts and forums all over the web but very few give you a direct answer.

Cheers again

S

G'day everyone.. i know this has probably been asked a million times but i seem to be too retarded to find it

.. lol!

Anyway, is there anyway to install bootmii/preloader or something like that (a nand backup tool) to boot2 or similar so I can restore my nand on boot (i have an equivalent of a lu64)?

I don't think i can just asking if this is possible.

i have asked that and got help on here so if i can help i will i installed bootmii the other day, if you download ( hackmii_installer_beta2 ) theres a read me with it put it on your card once you open with HBC you can install bootmii happy days

Thanks for helping! I have installed it already (i guess so, its on my sd card and i can load it from the homebrew browser) but it won't load at boot.. is there anyway to do this? it says it can only install as an IOS.. any other apps that does the same thing but work on a LU64 equivalent?

If you can't do a boot2 install of bootmii then nothing you do will be able to change that (other than getting an older Wii.) Bootmii as an IOS doesn't really offer you any brick protection at all. Your only option is to get preloader for brick protection. I believe you need to patch IOS36 with the Trucha Bug Restorer beforehand so it will let you install it.

Preloader is not a nand backup tool nor will it let you restore a nand backup or install to boot2 though. What preloader does is it replaces the system menu and moves it somewhere else so that when you boot to the system menu you actually boot to preloader instead and that can boot to the system menu, the homebrew channel, or any .dol application. This still offers brick protection because if your system menu gets corrupted somehow (provided it's not due to deleting/uninstalling it or the IOS it runs off of) you can still access the preloader menu and therefore the HBC in order to run something to fix it.

After intalling it you can enable whatever system menu hacks you want and then set it to autoboot whatever you want it to, and then if you ever need to access it again, hold down reset on the Wii when you turn it on.

With preloader you should be safe enough from bricks as long as you don't uninstall IOS60 (on FW 4.0 or 4.1) or the system menu itself.

Okay, so basically this means that if i install preloader i will be able to load an elf/dol file at bootup instead of the system menu...

Which tutorial do i use for this then?

You dont need a tutorial its as simple as clicking install file
then putting the dol in the root directory choosing it pressing install and everytime ur wii starts youve got that dol running if u choose to autoboot that

Hey guys just need help with something. I just updated from 3.2u to 4.1u, and I'm having problems with my shop channel. When I start it it just restarts my wii. Also, my Nintendo channel says it needs to update, but I was under the impression all my stuff updated when I updated my wii? How can I safely update that? I followed this guide to update BTW: ULTIMATE System Menu 4.0 Guide

So yeah thanks, and sorry if I am missing something completely obvious :/.
try wii sku app

Thanks a bunch the shop channel is now fixed
smile.gif
. I downloaded all channel upgrades, and ios 61 and 38. I read somewhere that 16 isn't really important, but i didn't download ios60 because wiibrew has a warning regarding it and menu 4.0. Should I download it?
Also this didn't fix the Nintendo channel, it says I need to update that via the shop channel. That's okay do to right?

i am havin similar problem. I updated from 3.2U to 4.1U and now my shop channel just resets back to system menu. The solution you mentioned is wii sku app...what is that, where can i get it?

Is there a difference between Waninkoko's "Custom IOS Downgrader" and his "Firmware Downgrader"?

Looking at the “Readme”s they are identical except for the thanks section.

Begging for help here. I am freaking out because I formatted my wii.

When I do step #3
3) Install the Homebrew Channel and install BootMii as boot2 if possible or as an IOS if boot2 is not available.

The homebrew channel says press 1 to continue. When I press 1 it does nothing.

How do I get it to install the HBC?

For Wii backups you needed to install a cIOS first and use NeoGamma R6 to play them. For GC backups you need to install a cMIOS and then use a GC backup launcher to play them.

Why did you format your Wii at all...

Anyways, is your Wiimote not syncing at all at that screen? If so try properly syncing it with the sync buttons on the wii and wiimote and try again otherwise use a GC controller and press A instead.

Now when trying to run the 4.1 firmware updater it failed. When it said installing System Menu 4.1U it gave an error -1036.
What should I do?

Hmm...I think I recall reading something about that when directly updating to 4.1 with that. Are you following the ULTIMATE 4.0 guide? I believe you either need to do step 12 first of installing that IOS60 with dop-IOS and then run it again, or you can use Waninkoko's 4.0 updater first and then the 4.1 updater should work.

It'd probably be easiest to walk you through it if you hop on our channel (in my sig) but basically take the .dol files in that download (should be one for the mIOS patcher and one for the backup launcher) rename them to boot.dol if they aren't already, leave them in whatever folder they are in and copy that folder to the "apps" folder on the root of your sd card so it should look something like: sd:\apps\mios patcher\boot.dol and sd:\apps\gc backup launcher\boot.dol

Then open up the HBC and run the mios patcher and follow the prompts there to install that. Then just put in your gc backup and launch the gc backup launcher from the HBC. I'm not sure if the download includes a wad of the backup launcher, but if you want to launch it from your system menu you need a wad of the GC backup launcher and then install that with wad manager 1.4 or 1.5.

THANK YOU!!!

That worked a treat

there is no wad for the GC backup launcher so is there any you would recomend that will work with GC Backup Launcher 0.2?

Thanks again

http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=135126

It won't have anything to do with the launcher on your sd card. When you install a wad of a channel you install the whole application to your system menu so the sd card isn't even needed to run the channel. (unless the channel you install is actually a forwarder that would just load a .dol from a specific folder on your sd card.)

Anyways the one in that link should work fine. Just install it with wad manager 1.4 (or 1.5) using IOS249.

Greets Dudes I have a simple and quick question .... If I erase my Wii memory in the Wii setttings what exactly do I loose. (All my channels, homebrew channel, Mii channel etc...) I have some wad games on my sd card that will not copy or move to the Wii memory for some reason so I was gonna wipe the sd card and Wii memory if I had to and start over. I am using Waninkoko's firmware 4.1 Any thoughts?

Don't format. Formatting a Wii with homebrew on it is never really a good idea. It's a lot safer to just say what you want to do and do it from where you are then to risk having formatting your Wii brick you.
