I have two REALLY dumb questions (one I'm 99% sure I know the answer just want to be 100%):

1. How can you tell if you can not install as boot2 (I'm guessing it would say FAILURE instead of SUCCESS when you try to install?)

2. Well this one is more confusion.... My wii is showing I do have HBC 1.02, but when I press the Home button on the Wii Remote there is no option for Bootmii.... why?!

I installed BootMii on boot2 and as IOS254, with my 1GB SD. Currently, HBC (which was updated to 1.0.2) does not see any apps on my 4GB SDHC, my snes9x is borked, mplayerce doesn't even load, though USB Loader GX appears to work fine. (these apps were loaded with my channel forwarders from my 4.0 system menu)

I will continue debugging, like putting some apps on my 1GB SD instead. Also to note, it takes forever for the Wii to boot now, with or without the BootMii SD in.

Edit: Uninstalling DVDx from the Bootmii installer, and not reinstalling DVDx from the Bootmii installer, now allows my apps to work from channel forwarders. HBC 1.0.2 still sees nothing on my 4GB SDHC. Note: I've never been able to get DVDx to work anyways (I have a modchip, etc.), and even a "successful" DVDx install from Bootmii did not let a DVD movie play in my mplayerce.

Note: Uninstalling and reinstalling HBC from the Bootmii installer did not fix the HBC problems. I might test installing the older 1.0.1 HBC with bannerbomb.

Note: Copying the files that Bootmii made on my 1GB SD (to be recognized upon booting) to my 4GB SDHC did not cause my 4GB SDHC to boot BootMii; it is as if Bootmii doesn't see my 4GB SDHC.

Otherwise how will this effect wads and channels?

will they still be installed or no?

and how do you know which to install, boot2 or ios?

You want boot2 for 100% brick proof, or near 100%
but boot2 doesn't work on all Wii's, test to see if your Wii can support bootmii on boot2 with this
http://static.hackmii.com/bootmii_check.elf

rename it to boot.elf, put it in apps and in a folder and that's it.

run it and if the long string of numbers and letters after boot1 doesn't start with f01e you can install it as boot2

For your first question, read this.

For your twice question "I don't know sorry". But you can watch my video .

Has anyone tried restoring a nand dump from waninkoko's older app? It wouldn't hurt to try but I wanted to see if anyone else has attempted it yet? If one did restore from an old nand dump that would mean they would loose bootmii also?

1. It checks your boot1 when you start the installer.
If it isn't vulnerable, it won't let you install it as boot2

2. Maybe it needs to be installed as an IOS to launch it from HBC?

Sorry... I am going to have to add a 3

3. Is it normal behavior for this to boot straight to BootMii... my bootmii.ini says System Menu.

One thing I will say is I did do this on a totally virgin Wii via Bannerbomb, but I can't really see that being an issue.

If we have a FAT SD card with stuff on it already, will BootMii automatically format the card or does it only do so if it needs to change the file system?

this is great news.
just quick question. if we were to make a backup up on the nand at 3.3 and then update to 4.0, we could downgrade at anytime by just installing the backup??? or if something was to go wrong in the proses of updating ? (having installed it ads boot 2 not IOS)

Thank you

This might be slightly off topic, but does anyone know whether the Wii is ok with MicroSD cards plugged in using MicroSD->SD adapters? Is anyone actually using that kind of setup?

I edited mine to boot to the HBC, and found it didn't work until I deleted all the extra descriptive text from the .ini. So when I open it, all mine says is:

video=progressive
autoboot=hbc

With 1.0.2 the Homebrew Channel doesn't see any apps on my card either. I know they are still there since I checked with my computer.
Also the loader works for me too through the forwarder.

I didn't install bootmii though.

You definitely need to remove the descriptive text... I would have thought that would be obvious :S.... and regardint the AUTOBOOT option, it still boots to BootMii, but after 5 seconds, if you don't hit the GC controller or any of the Wii's power/reset buttons, it'll automatically boot to whatever you set as autoboot. (theres a little graphic with 5 pips (5 seconds) that shows up under the option that you choose).

EDIT: Thanks Meannekes for the reply

so would it be possible to dump the nand from one wii and flash it to another w/ bootmii? and is there a quicker way to remove preloader than downgrading systemmenu?
