waninkoko's does not download the Jap FW......you will get a brick.

Before that, you recommended method 2 because you weren't aware that mine was a JPN Wii? Anyway, if I use method one would I have the bug of not be able to play the wiiware copied to the sdcard if it's not present on the Wii's memory? Thanks for warning me about Waninkoko's updater about this.

I still must run IOS downgrader after the 4.0 update to retain trucha right? Isn't this a firmware downgrader? What are the steps for this app? Mine's a hard modded with wiikey so I can skip this step?

yeh i wasn't aware you were on Jap.

After you install 4.0, use IOSdowngrader (not CIOSdowngrader) to get trucha back........... this isn't a FW downgrader just some IOS files.

You get it from http://wii.waninkoko.info

Get IOSdowngrader and simply run in HBC after you've installed 4.0 and all will be sweet

Is it still safe to go online after updating? (At least Mario Kart)

I just read up and found that beta9 does not support ELF installations. Is it absolutely necessary to update?

No it is not, however 99.9% of apps are now .DOL files, this isn't a problem anymore

kongsnutz, slightly off topic but if you can help in any way with my problem, I'm trying to run IOS-Downgrader_v1.dol via Wad Manager 1.3, the dol is in the wad folder of my SD card, anyway when i try to run it it cant and i get error = -1 or some crap, infact I'm leaning towards maybe your not supposed to be able to run dols from Wad Manager 1.3 as I could never get patchmii dol to ever run either, so am I supposed to have the IOS-Dowgrader_v1.dol in some other folder or run with a different program?

Which IOS uses the Disc Channel on firmware 4.0 ?

On my Wii works all except "trucha dvd" on che Disc Channel.

Just a FYI, i installed literally every single Wiiware game out for NTSC (except soduko), using a 16 gig SDHC card, and i have 103,400 blocks left on the card.

Method 1 does not patch all (it relaces all with new nintendo official ones), it only patches IOS60 for trucha........ (which is enough too boot trucha games from disc channel using your mod-chip) if you want your old patches still plus IOS60 use Method 2

In other words.........they both work great just choose one and follow it

Also, just thinking about the 'loss' of Starfall once you've gone to 4.0 .... I have a Wiikey 1, isn't that supposed to block updates anyway ?

Nope your wii will be 4.0 but only have the new ios for that menu but keep the old ones.

Wiikey i do believe has an update blocker in the newest config disc

That's what I thought about Wiikey ... maybe I just installed the 1.9s firmware but didn't run config after.

Can't see any reason not to update now. The Wii's only used to play backups, wads/vcs and Geexbox.

i think my wifi to HBC is not good.... i keep getting (ref= -1) ..... not sure how to fix that.... is there a way to install it without downloading form the internet? like having a wad to do it?

Try setting your IP to Static(manual) this might help since you are able to download few files.

I can't run the IOS downgrader after using method 1 to get back my trucha... what gives? It will just exit to the start menu.

Also, how do you run wiiware wads from the sdcard? I copied a few inside, accessed the sd menu and nothing appears
