Last CIOS I used was... Custom IOS Installer (v36 rev 08) by Waninkoko/WiiGator... the one that fixed the 001/002 errors. Installed through Homebrew Channel. Should be OK then, right?

Yes thats the newest

QUOTE(wiiluver135 @ Mar 28 2009, 05:07 PM) ok I'm about to do method 1 but I just have one question, what's the difference between the official Nintendo update and Waninkoko's 4.0 updater? aren't they like...exactly the same?

No they aren't the same.

Waninkoko's only downloads the needed IOS files used by menu 4.0. Nintendo's downloads all the latest IOS files ............... Waninkoko's leaves the Trucha bug in old IOS files and Nintendo's doesn't.

Waninkoko's doesn't work on Jap wii's............. and Nintendo's works on all.

I suggest method 1 because it gives you all the newest ios files needed by newer games.

If you need trucha back after apdating using nintendo's updater, you can run IOSdowngrader (not CIOSdowngrader) to do it.
and what about starfall or something similar to it?!?!?
btw thanks so far, I fell really comfident to update now and wasn't as scared as I was like yesterday!

One other question or two.

1. What is benefits of doing method 1 over method 2?

2. If I decide to go with method 2 and I then decide I want all the latest ios's.... can I then do method 1?

3. If you lose the trucha bug in the old ios's from doing method 1... does that mean certain backup games or channels won't work?

Still kinda new to the scene.

No starfall or anything yet

1. Can run newer games that require newest ios files

2. No

3. Custom Guitar hero won't work but everything else will, using backup launcher or gecko os

Custom GH is a GH that has the songs replaced, you can use IOSdowngrader to make that game work though

So then, you would definitely recommend doing method 1. Get more benefits with the newer ios files. Only backup that won't work is Custom GH.

All I really want is to get back the Nintendo Shop Channel. Don't really care about putting all the homebrew channels on the SD card. Don't really have more than a few (HBC, Wii Launcher, GC Launcher) things on my main Wii screen anyways.

Yep Yep Method 1.

NOTE: you will need to reinstall the CMIOS to get Gamecube Backuplauncher to work again.................but thats easy.

One final question.

My system started as 3.4U. I then used the Wii Hack Pack that had wad manager/custom wm/IOS downgrader/Custom IOS Downgrader v1.2... and went down to 3.2 firmware to get backup launcher to work. But my system still shows that it is 3.4U. Is that supposed to be like that or should it say 3.2U? Never found the answer to this.

ok I'm about to do method 1, this is REALLY my final question, then I'll just come back and tell you how it went (or if I run into problems
tongue.gif
)
After doing method 1, were you still able to use the wad manager 1.3 and install vc/ww wads & use the shop channel and re-download vc/ww no problem & are able to get into the wii speak channel?

I promise this is my last question, I know I seem like a n00b

, I just want to be cautious

It's supposed to say 3.2U if you did chose 3.2U when using Ciosdowngrader................ did you have CIOSv8 installed before Ciosdowngrader..........my guess is you didnt and that is why you tried to downgrade to install backuplauncher..........it failed and didnt really downgrade you.

You need to install IOS16 on 3.4U then use a Wadmanager for IOS16 to install IOS247(CIOS)

Yes after update all works as long as you have CIOS and HBC before you update....... those are really important.... if you have those everything will be sweet.

Yes its the same

@moviecouple

1 is recommended by me.............. as long as you have ios36rev8(CIOS) and HomeBrew channel installed before update it's all good

@Bloodlust

I'm sorry man, error 2011 means that CIOS isn't installed.........
frown.gif
i'm guessing you have a chip and never installed CIOS at all........... you are stuck untill someone hacks the wii...............unless you installed IOS60 from my guide before updating then theres still a glimmer of hope

I did install the IOS60 update before updating to 4.0. So is there a solution?
frown.gif

I need you to test this: (just do it and report results)

Move any VC/Wiiware/Channel (not official bought ones) installed using wad manager before the update to the sd card using the MOVE function in the wii memory system.

(Don't MOVE HBC as a test what ever you do)

see if you can run it now using the sd menu.

if you can i can develop a fix for you

Ok, just moved one wiiware (hacked, not bought) game over to the sd. Tried launching from it and it still works. I really hope for a solution soon, thanks

starting from 3.2E with the rev8 ios installed.

went through method 2 without any errors being reported (wanin's stuff went through photo channel, shop channel, photo channel 1.1, etc fine) but when the wii is restarted (a) it still thinks it's 3.2E and (b) there's no sign of a "move" option on the SD system menus anywhere

Here were the instructions I used to downgrade...

1. Launch the Homebrew Channel and start up Wad Manager, and install IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad

**EVEN if you have received errors trying to install other wads this should still work.

2. Launch the Homebrew Channel and Load Custom WM, install cios_fix.wad. You cannot install this wad with Wad Manager. This is a custom wad manager designed to work for IOS16.

3. Launch Homebrew Channel and Load IOS Downgrader (It should be #3). Just follow any prompts until it tells you it is complete.

**This is NOT the same as the cIOS downgrader. The cIOS downgrader allows you to upgrade or downgrade to the ideal firmware version which is 3.2. The reason 3.2 is so popular
is partially because versions after this one had the Trucha bug fixed, and almost as importantly ver 3.2 is required to run Starfall. Starfall is important because it is at
this time one of the only ways to fix a partially bricked Wii. It is also handy for skipping disk updates.

1. Am I missing or doing something incorrectly?
2. After doing the above... do I need to really go down to 3.2U??? Or should I stay with 3.4U? Everything I want to use (Backup Launcher, GC Launcher, Wad Manager, All Emulators) seem to work so far.

in the same boat as bloodlust (i think?)...

wiikeyv1 installed long time ago. I didn't realize the difference between IOS and CIOS I honestly havn't been following the scene in the past 8 months or so and havn't even played my wii at all I kept my system at 3.2U for the longest time until the other day.... tried to read up as much as I can but it wasn't until now I see the diference between IOS's and CIOS's

Updated according to instructions (minus the CIOS already installed part) because I wasn't on 3.3/3.4 at all which it mentioned instructions for, and I thought it involved softmods which I didn't think I needed since I have the wiikey... so I thought that step didn't apply to me, and I already had homebrew channel installed.... now that i've read through I realized this was a mistake.

I thought everything was perfect because all my previously installed wads worked off the SD card and all functions work, i can move back and forth without problems... but then i went to install new /wads and i get the error message that I can't install the ticket or whatever it is...

so now it seems like i'm stuck. I can run everything, I have all the 4.0 functions, all my PREVIOUS wads / virtual console things work, but I just can't put anything new on.

d'oh :-/

ok it worked no problem!
I'm installing my old channels/vc as wii speak
tongue.gif

I also had to update the wii speak channel 4 some reason (idc right now) but everything is going fine so far!
will be back to edit post for other tests
edit: rebooting through the disc channel with backups don't work (gives an error asking you to turn off the wii and take the disc out blah, blah, blah) but just loading through the backup channel works no problem
edit2: no copy flag loads but doesn't work through backup channel, and won't even load through GeckoOS, so I guess it's back to using the savegame installer/extractor for us 4.0u users
tongue.gif
, or we could just downgrade back to 3.2u and just use the hooks there

Not only that, any games which you patched with wiifri before won't work off the disc channel anymore. Neither can GOS help because the game will ALSO refuse to launch... fuck...
