Nintendo Announces End of Service for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

After nearly seven years, Nintendo has announced that it's stopping active service for its smartphone AC title on November 28th, 2024.

Fans won't be left without any alternatives at all, though: Nintendo are apparently developing a paid version of Pocket Camp for future release (again on smart devices) that will not require constant connection to the internet and will contain no in-app purchases.

Additionally, users will apparently be able to carry over their data from the current version of the app to this new version via linking their Nintendo Account. More information about this future version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be shared in October.

Why did people play this instead of the Switch game? Sure the Switch game used to be kind of bareboned but before they stopped updating it ended with basically almost everything from previous games save Nes games and connecting to a GBA.
I don't have a Switch neither I can even remotely afford one (nor been able for years already), even if I just were to resort to unlawful ways to obtain software for it. Sometimes people do what they can with what they have.

A good trend really aeeing these mobile addiction apps get gutted and refitted lazily for one time paid versions.
Though wish they'd not gut then and just redesign the game to be less psychologically manipulative.

I hope at the least this encourages them to bring back other lost titles like Miitomo (or atleast it's content in some form anyway), Dr.Mario and Draglia Lost as they all still have an audience hoping to see it again atleast in some form.
Maybe they're waiting to see if this does well before they try that?

Pokemon Rumble Rush must have been a not-unsubstantial investment.

Well, I only played it around the time it was first out. I wanted to get into the series, but I just don't think that's the games are for me and the mobile version was a cut down version of them.

Well, if the people of the EU get their way, this would be the norm.

So Animal Crossing gets the “permanent offline version” treatment but Dr. Mario World didn’t? This just makes me more upset on how they handled that whole thing, and I think the 11 other Dr. Mario fans would agree. They better do this permanent version with Mario Kart Tour soon (oh, and allow us to play whatever tracks whenever we want to if it’s paid and offline. The live service Tour system is stupid)

i dont get these end of service anouncments. i mean wow in online for about 20 years plus... and nintendo keeps games alive for 2 years.
you dont realize theres a difference between an mmo (arguably the most successful one ever) that costs 15$/month, that releases a new expansion every 2 years and a mobile game?

I wonder whether they decided to offer a paid version with save transfer because they actually wanted to go that extra mile in the first place or because otherwise they'd have given EU citizens yet another reason to sign the Stop Destroying Videogames petition.

Just a week ago I joked about publishers playing nice for the next year just for that particular reason.

There is games for NDS, Wii and Gamecube. A used DS is not that expensive. Sure online a some functions won't work in the DS game but there are fan servers and hacks for that.

Even though I'm not 100% Nintendo anymore, this is still sad news. Pocket Camp is arguably their best app they maintain currently. I'm still scratching my head over the cancellation of Miitomo, also - THAT could have also blossomed into something more, but Nintendo didn't even give it a chance.

All aside, legit question :
How is the game?
I only played it a tiny little bit that was needed to unlock Nooklink back in the day where you had to connect your account to it, but never played it further due to me being against in-app purchases, Gacha shits and pay2win.

So now that's going to be like it should be (a full release without shit)

Is the game worth playing and investing time in?
