Nintendo Announces End of Service for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

After nearly seven years, Nintendo has announced that it's stopping active service for its smartphone AC title on November 28th, 2024.

Fans won't be left without any alternatives at all, though: Nintendo are apparently developing a paid version of Pocket Camp for future release (again on smart devices) that will not require constant connection to the internet and will contain no in-app purchases.

Additionally, users will apparently be able to carry over their data from the current version of the app to this new version via linking their Nintendo Account. More information about this future version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be shared in October.

As stated in the news though they are going to rather "replace" it with a paid version and you can carry your savegame over. Imho this is the best thing that can happen (not that I care about this game at all).
Right. Still sad that helping others is out though.

I was about to write an article too xD

Though, it's sad to see this game go away. Classic Nintendo. I'll buy the paid version tho, I don't want to lose another AC town

Here's the email for those who haven't recieved it:

Thank you for playing

We are writing to let you know that the service for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on smart devices will end on November 28th, 2024 at 15:00 (UK time).

In-game events and item distribution will continue until the service ends. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the game since it launched.

Regarding the sale of Leaf Tickets

The sale of in-game Leaf Tickets will cease shortly before the end of service on November 27th, 2024 at 06:00 (UK time). Please use any remaining Leaf Tickets before the end of service.

Regarding the end of the Pocket Camp Club monthly subscription plan

Subscriptions to the Pocket Camp Club will no longer be possible as of October 28th, 2024 at 01:00 (UK time). After this date, users will be unable to create new subscriptions, and existing subscriptions will not automatically renew.

Users with paid subscriptions to any of the plans – Merry Memories Plan, Happy Helper Plan, or Furniture & Fashion Plan – that extend beyond October 28th, 2024 will continue to receive the benefits of their relevant plan until the service ends on November 28th, 2024 (excluding the Pocket Camp Club Journal and benefits distributed monthly including Leaf Tickets and Fortune Cookies).

Please note: users with a free trial of the Happy Helper Plan do not qualify for this extension of benefits.

Regarding the future of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

We are currently developing a paid version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for smart devices to release in the future. This version of the game:
  • Will not require a constant connection to the internet
  • Will not contain any in-app purchases
  • Will allow existing Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp users to transfer their save data over by linking their Nintendo Account (please note: due to the paid version not supporting in-app purchases, this transfer will not include any unused Leaf Tickets).
More information about this version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be shared in October 2024. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

There's a far from insignificant number of players who have probably invested thousands of dollars into this game over the last seven years. The best possible outcome.

It's been at least a year or two since I played the game and I'm not sure I can even muster the will to open it up one last time and see what's changed. It's a nasty little timesink.

Weird that Super Mario Run is still going, but I guess its upkeep is less demanding. (It actually got an update with Wonder content not so long ago.)

Given Nintendo's usual attitude, I was pretty surprised by this. At best, I thought they were going to just leave the game in a kind of 'frozen' state post-shutdown and you'd be able to dabble with the existing content albeit neutered from the original state.

I dare say a paid offline version will resonate with people a lot more but I might be proven wrong on that.

and all the suckers who play online only games get exactly what they deserved. who plays online only games. only suckers imo.

if gamers were actually smart and didnt buy into this stuff this game wouldnt of lasted a year before it was shut down and remade into a game that doesnt require online.

so next time you go to play an online only game. just remember your a sucker and loser for doing so.

Reminds me of Megaman X Dive Offline. I didn't buy or use anything with the original X Dive, but it was a nice option, and I actually bought Offline and it's a fun lil PC game imo.
That one didn't let you transfer save though. Nintendo did the best move here.

Why did people play this instead of the Switch game? Sure the Switch game used to be kind of bareboned but before they stopped updating it ended with basically almost everything from previous games save Nes games and connecting to a GBA.

There is a shockingly high number of people who prefer to play mobile games or only have phones.

I loved it for a couple of months when it was first out, but got bored of it fairly rapidly and never went back to it.
However, out of all of Nintendo's forays into smartphone games (not including Pokémon Go), AC Pocket Camp was my favourite.

taking the bait, the players will be able to transfer their save files, still continue to play the game, AND no longer require in-app purchases. Mobile games do as mobile games do, but this is one of the best outcomes possible for players of Pocket Camp.
