For the disc laser? That might be useless if the laser is dead. There's really nothing else to do if it's functioning as it should.I'm thinking of changing the ribbon cable,
Getting a FreeMCBoot MC & MX4SIO (yes you need both).what else do you recommend?
FreeMcBoot will open up all sorts of possibilities. I had never heard of the MX4SIO before, but an SD card adapter in the memory card? That's something. For the disc laser? That might be useless if the laser is dead. There's really nothing else to do if it's functioning as it should.

Optional: you could get a BT controller adapter to use with the PS2, there are a few around most notably the 8bitdo's. I recommend it if you don't have a ps2/1 controller in decent condition.
