Anbernic is back with yet another retro gaming handheld: the RG Cube. True to its name, this device has a 3.95-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 1:1 (720x720). It sports a Unisoc T820 processor and based on Android 13. More specs details can be found below:

While the RG Cube has been announced, Anbernic has not revealed the price nor the availability of the device. However, considering the company's traditional approach, these details should be revealed within the coming weeks.

The first problem is that you can't use dmca for that. That isn't what dmca is for. Dmca is for specifically and exclusively copyright. Selling a device that has some similarity to something someone else sells is not a copyright issue.
Second: Many devices have used the exact same color scheme for their buttons and nintendo doesn't care.
yes BUT your forgetting the new nintendo are 50% more dicks now

I get that the X is super powerful, but does it really do much that the 8 Gen 2 isn't currently capable of (since that's pretty much the golden boy of the high end Android handhelds at the moment)? Just seems like we're hitting a plateau of having things to actually put the power to use with Android.
it's true. Maybe the newer chips can help with run-ahead and whatnot? Hell if I know. Probably many glitchy ps2 games running on emulators?

Dude.... Why are they pumping these out like candy. Serious waste of the technology, there's a reason why system releases have year gaps and such, that way there is time to allow such systems to mature within their supported timeframe, as well as provide a glimpse on what the consumer space looks like, which helps shape up successor systems a bit, not to mention technological advancements that come over time, allowing for capabilities that make systems unique and or more interesting (not just hardware power, but what most consider to be "gimmicks" too).
Those « retro consoles » don't really follow the same logic as other tech companies
Most of them don't even make their own software, they just pump out the same shit so they better make as much models as possible in order to suit as many people as possible. Since it's still a niche market they don't need to produce a TON of each model, and voilà

Honestly at that point there's no need to make news about each release. Next month there'll be a hundred more

Jesus Christ and every other swear out there, how in the hell am I supposed to figure out which device to get?? It's hard enough with a bunch of different companies pumping these out, but the SAME company is pumping out more frequently?

The above situation is what I went through before I just finally decided to get a Steam Deck. No regrets.

Moral of the story: Pick a machine that emulates everything you could want in a form factor you want and then stick with it.

Extra power on these android machines makes zero difference, as it's limited to ps2. If you don't need ps2, then your options are much cheaper. (This is coming from a consumer-whore who took a while to find their perfect machine).

By stepping into this topic, I expected more than half of this news' answers. And I was right.

No comments about how it's one of the few that can actually decently emulate PS2 games. No comments about how weird is its form considering it's a high-end emulation device but looks like its main concurrents are square-shaped screen devices, which are mostly low-end emulation devices (for a good reason, and it's mostly for pixel-perfect GB/GBC renditions).

But the usual "muh new emulation device every few weeks" (which doesn't matter since each company can shell them out for a little price and thus can afford such speed), "muh e-waste" (they come from China, they don't give a single care), "muh dmca" (learn to use the proper terms before complaining about such things or you'll just look silly at best).

It'll probably end up like pissing in a violin (useless but makes a lovely noise), but I needed to vent it out. So thanks to the rare ones who stepped out of what became these news' logic.

Depends what you mean by 'doesn't matter'. For the consumer looking to make sense of what device they want, it matters. There's a reason a lot of companies don't pump out a new iteration of their products every few weeks. I don't think anybody is saying they 'must not be allowed' to do this, but rather that it's confusing they choose to do so.

How is 'China doesn't care' a good rebuttal to the issue of e-waste? I think you'll find that's the very source of the problem, not it's antidote.

GBAt did this to you, not us criticizers. By giving espace to every new device, they've conditioned the readers not to care about any of them. And to disregard Anbernic as ewaste.

Much like phones, tablets, laptops, any piece of tech, there's no point in waiting for the "perfect" one because whatever you get, a slightly better model will be out in a week or two.
Your comment reminds me so much of something my father once told me. He had recently lost his wife (my mother) to cancer in the late 1990's, and wanted to get a computer to help fill his free time in his retirement. He was showing me what he wanted to buy, and these things were expensive. I told him he could get a much better machine in just a couple of years for the same amount of money. He replied:"OK, but will I still be there in a couple of years?" I shut up right there! He bought the computer he wanted and enjoyed it until his death a few years later.

He sounds like he was a wise man.

There's a reason a lot of companies don't pump out a new iteration of their products every few weeks. I don't think anybody is saying they 'must not be allowed' to do this, but rather that it's confusing they choose to do so.

It doesn't matter to them since they don't care about the cost, and the form factor will push people to buy new models anyway.

Take the RG35XX SP model. Its only advantage against the previous RG35XX models is the GBA SP form factor, but they know for a fact that it'll sell because of that appearance and the nostalgia involved with the GBA SP.

Take this model. Its only advantage against the other high-end models is the square-shaped screen, but they know for a fact that it'll sell because competitors already managed to sell other square-shaped screens, despite the fact theirs were low-end models and Anbernic's model is more a high-end model, specs-wise.

The appearance of the model is the reason it sells anyway.

How is 'China doesn't care' a good rebuttal to the issue of e-waste? I think you'll find that's the very source of the problem, not it's antidote.

It is the source of the problem AND the reason it won't change a thing.

China only cares about making products and selling them. Therefore, their companies are aiming for that, and not caring about any environmental issues caused by their attitude. Think 1800s USA and Europe, where high productivity was the main target.

And while the problem lies in the fact other countries still buy their products, it isn't realistically something you can actively fight against, considering it means fighting your own country as well as most of the biggest countries of the world, for a chance of blocking companies like Anbernic that massively produce plastic e-waste.

Sure, you can fight them at your own level, but you won't produce anything realistic by complaining on forums and discussion channels.

GBAt did this to you, not us criticizers. By giving espace to every new device, they've conditioned the readers not to care about any of them. And to disregard Anbernic as ewaste.

I do personally care. But I also know GBAt is too small to have any impact on the massive production scale that the three big e-waste producers (China, India and USA) do to the world, and by extension, I know that complaining here does not, for a fact, have any real impact on their production. And while your battles have a sound logic and a valid cause behind them, the level you're fighting in is futile and has no meaning.

Try coming back with much bigger numbers (because seeing the same 2-3 people complaining has no big enough weight to matter) and acting at a more important level (because GBAtemp is small compared to much bigger and more active companies e-waste-wise) before starting to complain, because as I said, what you do now amounts to pissing on a violin - It doesn't do anything but a weird sound that'll be forgotten in one or two hours.

The problem isnt in the company releasing too many products. The problem is people dont know how to find what they need.
If you're simply trying to find the best handheld you can get, then you'll never be satisfied since theres always a new one around the corner like mobile phones.

Instead people need to make their mind up on what consoles they want to be able to emulate, and then buy or wait for the device that can perform to that level.

Do you only want to emulate up to PSX? There's a handheld for that. You want to be able to do PS2 and Gamecube? There's a handheld for that. You want a horizontal or vertical form factor? There's a handheld for that.
Figure out what you want and then be happy with it, and not worry about what releases after you make the plunge.
