So is anyone else following recent developments? https://3ds.guide now links to https://troubleshoot.uwuu.ca/seventeen/ , which is in some ways quite a bit nicer and more comprehensive, if not as straightforward.

It looks like a new otherapp is now available, so super-skaterhax on the U-region N3DS is viable again. And apparently Zoogie released an updated ninjhax last year already? I missed that news entirely. That's been updated too.

It seems there's a new offline installer for basehaxx as well, for Pokemon ORAS owners. (It's described using the 3DS ROP xPloit Injector, like kartdlphax, because apparently the bigger payloads had problems on J-region cartridges? I never knew about that either.)

There are no instructions yet for oot3dhax, but that ought to work with the offline installer. Presumably someone is working new oot3d Powersaves data and an offline installer for stickerhax too. (Is a Powersaves even very easy to find anymore..?)

So, there's still no exploit for the o3DS that doesn't require a particular digital download or a particular cartridge, but there are several options, at least.

You could block internet access entirely to the console if all you care about is local connectivity
how do you do this, exactly? all the methods i can find seem outdated, unless you just meant deleting all your wifi connections from the system settings and that works here

Configure your router to assign the same IP address to your 3DS every time, then deny access outside of the WLAN to that IP address. Of course, if you actually bring your 3DS outside of your house, you have to be sure to turn Wi-Fi off before you leave, so that it can't connect to a public hotspot and gain Internet access that way.

I think the 3ds will be unusable after the system update because of the hack or CFW?
Hello and welcome to GBAtemp.
Not surprising this questions pops up now frequently (as after each previous update). What should the people behind The Guide do more to make it clear?

This box leaves nothing to be desired in my opinion:

If you have any problems or questions, post simple things into the 3DS NOOB PARADISE.

Good luck and have fun!

Since it's been a bit since the update came out and I didn't see anything mentioned about it, Is there any chance that Nintendo inserted a timebomb into this update???

Thanks, figured that was the case, just wanted to double check.
I just wouldn't put it past the big N to do something like that.
If they want to get sued, and lose a lot of money, damaging end user devices on purpose with a logical bomb is a good way to achieve this.
In most countries such a kill update would be highly illegal (no matter how they try to hide themselves behind some stupid disclaimers, TOS, or whatever). A logical (time)bomb to harm homebrew users' consoles is simply damage to property, which results in the liability to repair everything (and pay for the lost time and caused stress). They'd get their ass kicked.
I'm surprised about ERROR 003 on region changed Korean Wii consoles. That idea was very risky.

Don't think everything is safe. It could be a timebomb. Hell, I don't think I've updated myself.

As was mentioned above, people know exactly what the latest update changed. It might not be immediately obvious exactly what those changes did, but they would know if there was something that looked like a timebomb.

Thank goodness i got my Old Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, and my sister's Old Nintendo 3DS XL CFW before the update came out. That would have sucked so much if i updated to 11.17.0.50.
