TBH all new consoles are very hard if not impossible to hack. PS4 hack is frustrating as well.
One pays the tax of owning a last gen console ☹️

I agree and wish it was untethered, but seriously you're missing out on near perfect n64 emulation

I already have devices that emulate N64, I really don't want to mod the only Switch I have, if it goes south, I'm shit out of luck. Used Switches aren't better either.

If you make a NAND backup you're fine, i've bricked and restored so many times it isn't funny. But if you've got other ways to emulate n64 then fair!

So, someone wants to explain this?

For the record, using 1.9.0 snes9x (1.6.0) and this only happens when Hi-res mode and Blargg NTSC Filter both active. Having one or the other won't make this happen.

Which means I either have to turn off the Blargg ntsc filter, or turn off high res mode.
wait, I already beat this but does this game have a hard time emulating or something????

Also, guys, I know I cant be the only one and it feels like a noob question but how come player one gets analog control of the D Pad yet player 2 and i think 3 and 4 has to use the D Pad? Been meaning to try to fix this. Anybody successfully play a 4-player NES game on Wii U Retroarch???? Been dying to get it to work on Micro Mages but so far I can only do 2 players max :( thx in advance

Not sure on this one, but unless you using nestopia core, should be a option in the core menu to enable 4 player multitap. Though I never tried connecting more controllers myself honestly to test.

Also, kirby's dream land 3 doesn't have any issues emulating, it was just a quirk of the game swapping resolutions (Snes hi-res mode) during gameplay.

I'll double check on core options cuz im kindova RA noob but know how to get my games to work. I'm mostly worried rn about L stick use in players 2-4 (I play alot w little nephews and cousins) so have any of you dealt w or solved that issue? lil update on myself I beat satellaview zelda so finally got back on here. Quick Q, how can I check which version on RA I have? ive only updated it once and like to know so I know if I have the most efficient one or really need to update and change some things. I've honestly never used Playlists either; Should I start doing those? are they worth it?

yeah I have an older version of RA on my Wii U and bearly getting to checking what version I have, but testing last night w the j and silent bob NES game, even w 2nd player w that dpad to analog option on L Stick, I was still forced to use the D Pad, which kinda sucks because I want to be able to play stuff like that, Simpsons, and Marvel Vs Capcom comfortably w multiplayer

Just started setting up RetroArch - have the latest stable now. Am having a lot of trouble with controllers - I really want to use something else than the Gamepad, but as soon as I attempt to switch devices in the settings for Port 1, I can't seem to navigate the menu with neither the newly set device nor the Gamepad. This happens to Wiimote/Classic controller and the Pro Controller. Deleting the config file all do not help. Is there anything I am doing wrong and can try?

Also, I read people talking about a setting "all players" being able to control the menu, but I can't find it anywhere. Was this perhaps removed in newer versions? It is extremely annoying as the above causes my only way out of RetroArch being holding the power button on the WiiU itself.

This is a problem that I face in version 1.9 too, if you accidentally change the controls and can no longer navigate in menu with any control, just plug in a USB keyboard and that's it, you can move the controls again.

I would like to understand what the problem was in the current builds so that the pro controller would stop working in the retroarch menu, although it works when we load a game.

Yeah, what happened to the option that any player can navigate the menu? That was handy when switching controller inputs as users are doing.

Thanks for the tip on the USB keyboard, this works most of the time - while cumbersome, it does help prevent having to hard reset the WiiU. I noticed though that a USB keyboard can in turn get stuck in the menu when there is a virtual keyboard shown, or when attempting to unify the controls for game and menu.

On the Gamepad issues;
When NOT wanting to play with the Gamepad (defaulted to port 1 no matter what I do), it is vital to put it out of range of the main unit and booting RetroArch with a WiiMote - this usually works well when I have other controllers already paired and connected. When only other controllers are connected like a WiiMote/Classic controller combination or the WiiU Pro Controller ,I can actually happily switch between them. This makes me think that the error is in the driver for the WiiU Gamepad . Oh well, at least I got some of what I want working. I feel like I've lost 10 years of my life attempting to set up RetroArch on the WiiU lol.

On the whole I'm really happy with 1.9.0. I'm sure the controller issue will be fixed soon. We'll have touchscreen support in the next version as well. We're finally seeing some longstanding issues being fixed.

My main complaint at this point is that Achievements slow the emulation down to a crawl now, even in the NES cores. Does anyone know why this is the case? Are the newer security checks really that taxing?

Why do image filters not work on wii u? I downloaded all the .slang but you can't find any in the list!

For the filters to work they have to compiled especially for the Wii U. Because that requires stolen code, I can't link to them here. You can find them if you google around. FYI only about 1/4th or less of them run at a playable framerate.

For the shaders to show up you'll also need to select the root of your shader folder under Settings > Directory > Video Filter.

For some reason, if you don't specify the folder in that setting and instead try to manually navigate to your shader folder, the files won't appear. But once you set it under Directory settings, they'll appear.

Dear diary, tonight I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown again because of RetroArch on the WiiU. Just when I was nearing the end of the excruciating ordeal setting everything up the way I want it, and while browsing my beautifully constructed massive playlists I suddenly noticed everything disappear. After quitting and restarting, RetroArch would not load anymore. So I powered down the WiiU and put my SD card in my laptop, only to find the entire RetroArch folder being a big garbled mess with corrupted files. Lol, what can you do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Start over, I guess.
