September 2026 Nintendo Direct recap, new Metroid and Kirby games on the way

The second of a two-part special, a more traditional Nintendo Direct is set to air today. Unlike the Zelda Direct the contents of this one is still relatively up in the air. What is known is that it'll be a 45 minute showcase putting a spotlight on the Switch 2 games launching later this year. Beyond that though, it's anybody's guess.

As with yesterday, I will be working throughout the presentation, so feel free to discuss it in my stead. When I return home later, I'll pop a summary of the big reveals here, and maybe even splinter off discussion with new threads if there's something particularly notable mixed in there. Let us know what you're hoping to see!

- More Pokemon Winds and Waves
- Third-party Switch 2 heavy hitters; Not just ports, but new games made for the system.
- An "HD 2D" Chrono Trigger remake from Squeenix.
- Close it out with one final trailer... The screen is pure black, and you just hear SkullKid laugh, and text appears saying that the Majora's Mask remake is in development. Leave it vague af.

Excited for the Duskbloods release date trailer, that's a given. Beyond that I just wanna be surprised. A new Wario World for instance, or Capcom bringing back Viewtiful Joe/debuting Okami 2 gameplay. A unexpected remake or two, like Eternal Darkness or Soul Calibur 2 (guest starring Link again). And of course everybody wants to see a Smash 6 reveal.

Literally ANYTHING that makes the Switch 2 something worth using - because so far, nuddin'.

All those "Switch 2 enhanced" ports? Yeah, don't care; the base Switch games are more than good enough, and not enough tends to be added to justify the new one. The only Switch 2 game I've got is Donkey Kong Bananza, and...one game isn't enough to make me want to use the console I got for Christmas 2025, y'know?
Hopefully Ocarina of Time is excellent; that should be a system-seller (or user, in my case). Maybe whatever the next new Kirby game is, might be a seller too?

hoping for new gamecube nso releases or a new nso system, new hamster arcade or console archives releases, maybe a tease for a new big 2027 nintendo game

I'm almost in the same situation as you. Bought the SW2 now rather than later because I was afraid of the price going up even more. Have 3 games. Pokopia, Bananza and Mario Tennis Fever. Have played some Pokopia and Mario Tennis but I still haven't touched Bananza. I'm just hoping for some new game that doesn't make the console collect even more dust.

I'll probably get the new Fire Emblem (enjoyed Three Houses, apart from the monastery part of the game, haven't played Engage yet), Haven't played a single zelda game ever so I may get this remake

I mean Ace Attorney 7 (or really just an Ace Attorney game, I'd rather have a TGAA-like new story than a continuation on 6) would be really nice.

Other than that, anything to make me excited to use my Switch 2 for anything other than playing Switch 1 games with better resolution and frame rate...
