Hardware External HDD partitions labeled as usb2 and usb3. No usb1.

Hi.

I have an 500GB external drive formatted part FAT32 (1st partition) and NTFS (2nd). I'm unable to boot any apps from the FAT32 partition (or use the drive without an SDCard) and I suspect, highlighted by USBLoader_gx 'custom paths' option, it's because there is no usb1:/ to be found. Only usb2:/ and usb3:/.

Any ideas?

I've tried formatting the system memory, re-modding with ModMii, etc. Thanks in advance.

You can do without an SD card, and put all the contents of the SD card on your external hard drive (on the FAT 32 partition) and inform the Homebrew channel (on homebrew channel press 1 or 2) that your applications are on the external hard drive.

An advice :

always leave the SD card in the wii, when you play or other, it works much better. Me that's how I do

Is your hack up to date?

what version of usb loader gx are you using ??

If you wish, you can post a syscheck report, to see if the IOS and CIOS are up to date

I dont know this exactly, but I suspect it is a partition table issue, meaning that, if you just removed the old partitions and re partitioned the drive again, the partition assigments can get kinda weird.
One example is that, if it had one partition before, a usb1, and you removed it to create two partitions, it will create partitions usb2 and usb3, ignoring the partition number used before. This is more noticeable in Linux machines, on Windows, the letter system is less clear.
The best tool for this is gparted, but it is linux only (it has its own live usb, but most distros support it and can be easily installed into if needed) and doing this it will erase everything on the drive, so back up any data before proceeding. On it, just click in Device > Create Partition Table > mbr. It will erase all partitions, then you can create your partitions again, preferrably in this exact order: first the FAT32 partition, then the NTFS one.

Are you sure usb2: is not actually your FAT32 partition and usb3: is the NTFS partition?
What is usb3: then?

Thanks. I didn't know about about the hbc shortcut, but it's not seeing the FAT32 partition when selecting 'usb device'. I only have a spare 128GB HDSC, which the wii struggles with, hence trying to omit it. I'll be ordering a few smaller ones probably, but would still be curious about my partition mislabeling problem.

I'm pretty sure my hack is up to date, I'm using usbloader_gx 1271 although I have tried the updated one (not sure why ModWii grabs this version). I'll try a few more things before I post a syscheck. I'm thinking Codemastershock's suspicions are right on.

Excellent thank you. I'm familiar with GParted. Though I don't have Linux installed atm, a 'live version' should do the trick (if that is indeed the problem). Thanks for reminding me it exists I should have really checked out Windows' 'Diskpart' as well, see if I could spot anything there.

I tried a usb flash drive, which was showing correctly to the Wii as usb1 if I remember correctly (but its 32GB is a pointless for this case).

Yes. The usb2: partition is the FAT32 one, and usb3: is the NTFS one.

Hi. There was a protected partition, revealed by 'diskpart'. Deleting this partition made it show up in Windows' 'Disk Management'. Then I just combined the first two. My bad for overlooking this.

So thank you very much again. It still wasn't enough initially... I also had to convert the disk from GPT to MBR (thanks to neek's output). As soon as I did that, the HBC allowed access to the apps on the HDD and the Uneek + DI I'd previously attempted seemed to work.
