Sorry if this has been asked before.
As the title states looking to do a fresh install and want to know if this is possible?

Out of curiosity, why are you wanting to do a "fresh install"?
Because its been a couple of years since I used it and want to start again with all the latest updates. Etc.
Just being OCD really. That and the usb hdd I had all my games on crapped itself.
I've heard people have issues trying to reinstall games that already have a ticket on the system

good question. they at least remain even if you delete the game.

logically, you'd think they would be in case you were to sell the system.

My advice is to not do a "fresh install" unless there's a specific problem. Reinstalling games you've already installed normally works just fine.

I don't know about if it's a fake ticket, but a legit ticket will be superseded by a fake ticket if it's higher in the ticket bucket. in other words, a fake ticket will cause a game to fail to install if it's through the eshop if the fake ticket is higher up in the chain.

it's a thing, yes. use wup installer. try using tik2sd to see the tickets you have installed before and after you format. you won't have to do any hex editing, just pick out a title id for a ticket, then see if it's still there after formatting. it will probably be gone. tik2sd contains title ids and location of tickets. the title id is in the ticket about midway down for each ticket. the location it installs to is preset, but the location offset is different depending on which tickets (how many and digital/retail which are different sizes) are installed, which is why you need tik2sd.

Yeah I've used tik2sd before to hex out old tickets. So to confirm you can copy installation files to a usb thumb stick to install on a usb hdd through wup y mod?

yes, or wup installer gx. I think I use gx, but it's been years since I've installed anything. I have it as a forwarder. make sure you uninstall cbhc first if you have it or you'll brick. you can do that with the installer. I've only uninstalled cbhc once and that was to test a fake ticket. I think the eshop install will go through if on cfw even if it's a fake ticket, but I can't quite remember for sure.

you can delete them, but I don't know if default apps are lumped in there. I thought that they might remain. that is really weird though, 'cause if there's a problem and are legit, you might be screwed.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

look here. if none of the default stuff tickets are there, it's probably safe to delete them all. https://wiiubrew.org/wiki/Title_database I don't think they're in there, but I don't recall for sure. might want to be sure first.

edit: I wrote that info down on psx place. thanks for letting us know that that happens.

I've only installed hatchi over brain training and installed the homebrew launcher channel so ill make sure those tickets are safe and wipe the rest and see what happens lol.

Tik2sd lists 310 tickets installed which with all the games, updates and dlc that was previously installed sounds about right.

The tickets are irrlevant for you. There is no need to format the console or something like this. I don't know why the people care about these tickets. This "problem" (which isn't one) already exists with the 3DS. Just leave the tickets as they are.

Thank you!

My wii u takes a substantial amount of time to boot up these days and my theory is that its checking through all the tickets to see which ones are installed to show a tile for on the menu. Even after a fresh install it sits there spining for about 30 seconds before it loads the menu.
I haven't had a chance to remove all tickets yet but when I do ill report back with whether there is a performance improvement or not. The console itself has only had about 100 hours use so I doubt there are any issues with the hardware itself.
I wanted to know how many "main" ticket folders there are to see if it was safe to delete the folders also.
Also if anyone is curious. I ftp'd in ages ago and removed the "update" folder from the nand to stop any unwanted updates occuring. Doing a fresh install does not restore this folder either. I had to use nnu patcher to download my ds title so I could get ftpiiu everywhere to work correctly. (Was on 5.5.1)

The tickets are not the problem. The wii u itself is not the fastest console on the world. I don't have many titles installed on my unit, but it needs amount of time to boot up completely.

mine is the same way. it's the indexer, which is a bin file I believe. it doesn't index icons or game names or anything like that. those can be freely changed without reinstallation or loading the game in question. the indexer just knows of the existence of the game. it relies on what's called "common files." the ps3 does it too, but more information is recorded on the ps3 it seems, so it's faster. the indexer there is about 10-12MBs for 5,000 installs, so do the math. I don't know what it is for the wii u. it's not necessarily the speed of the system, just the fact that not enough information is recorded, so it's reading over the common files of the hdd. this is unlike the 360, which doesn't use an indexer. to read over my 3,400 indies in dashlaunch takes about three to five minutes, since it has to read over the entire hard drive.
