Nintendo Switch firmware 9.1.0 released

switch.jpg

And, after the 3DS got its recent system update, this time it looks like it's the Switch's turn. Firmware 9.1.0 has been released by Nintendo for all regions and the changelog states it's meant to fix an issue with the colour animation not showing correctly when attaching a Joy-Con to the console... alongside with the usual stability. However, there may also be something else under the hood, as @SciresM has warned that TrustZone might have received an undocumented change, so current CFWs may break if you install the update.

Ver. 9.1.0 (Released December 4, 2019)

General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including a solution for the following:

  • Resolved an issue where the color animation was not displaying correctly when attaching a Joy-Con controller to the Nintendo Switch console.

Needless to say, given those premises, it may be best to avoid updating for the moment if you're running a CFW or if you wish to mod your console. Not much else is known at the time of writing - this post will be updated with any useful hacking and homebrew-related info.

EDIT: For devs (and the curious), a summary of the TrustZone changes by SciresM found in FW 9.1.0 is now available here.

EDIT 2: SX OS, Atmosphère and Hekate have all been updated to support firmware 9.1.0 since then.

Anyone know how to fix this? Since the new update crashed out my switch and sent it into the loop I tried rebooting into the normal nintendo firmware but it keeps looping me back with Hekate and i'm stuck

You can normally boot into your sysNAND, but Nintendo has borked CFW completely with this new update. I can't get into CFW at all thanks to my stupidity.

Can I install emunand even with the update msg around? I didn't install it

Yes, you can. Be careful f that update prompt though.

Update: So when my CFW got borked and I couldn't even get into the hekate menu, I went into my SD card I took the hekate payload and deleted it from my AceNS dongle for RCM mode. I then re-copied the one I had to the dongle and now I'm able to get back into hekate, however I still can't boot into CFW. I guess updating the console in any way has a great chance of corrupting the way Atmosphere boots.

It's best to just wait on it. SciresM was live streaming what looked like him working on a fix earlier so in due time

Right, that's what I was believing I should do as well. I just wanted to get the hekate menu working again, that's all.

But I need to enter on boot menu, is that safe? I'm new on this so idk if the switch will update automatically before or after shutdown

It shouldn't auto-update at all if you have that set in your system menu. There's an option to turn them off anyways.
