The Pokemon Global Link service will be ending in February 2020

For over nine years, Pokemon players have been able to use the Pokemon Global Link online feature throughout multiple generations of Pokemon games, beginning with Pokemon Black and White, and being used most recently in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Introduced in 2010, the Global Link was used as a way for players to catch unique Pokemon in the Dream World browser game, which would have unique Dream Abilities that were not obtainable otherwise. Afterwards, it was used to help facilitate online connections in the 3DS generations of Pokemon titles, for functions such as Rating Battles, Global Missions, and Live Competitions. As Pokemon Sword and Shield use a different way of connecting online players together, the Global Link service will be shut down on February 24, 2020. Once the service shuts down, those aforementioned features will no longer be usable in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon.

As a farewell present to the Global Link, players will be able to claim a special Munna belonging to Fennel, the character who used to be the tutorial guide for the Dream World and original implementation of the Global Link. The Pokemon comes in a special Dream Ball, and has its hidden ability. You'll be able to receive the Pokemon from now until the Global Link closure, in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon.

Context: XY out in October 2013, Global Link for Gen 5 ended in January 2014. Sounds about right. And for XY/ORAS, global link service ended before Sun and Moon even came out.
Exactly! Global Link has technically been around for a long time, but it's hardly been an unbroken line of service for its entire lifetime.

I am still so cheesed that I missed out on the Ultra Final Online Competition and the Shiny Tapu Koko. They waited five freakin' months since the previous competition! There was no obvious notification anywhere I was looking! It was sorely tempting to buy a code off of eBay, but they were all like $15 USD or something and it was impossible to justify for a Wonder Card I could replicate just as easily with pkhex. Maybe some day in the distant future the whole code-generation system will be cracked wide open.

Anyway, https://nintendoeverything.com/poke...-you-gift-of-fennels-munna-to-be-distributed/ says the link for Munna should be over here.

ETA: That link may be user-specific.

Does anyone actually still use Global Link? Reply if you do, I'm honestly curious.
I remember trying it once in X/Y, because I found out you could buy rare candies there pretty cheap with the miles you get from trading. Never touched it again, certainly not gonna miss it. It was a cool novelty being able to transfer a Pokemon out of your game and onto a website, but it was rather extraneous to the game itself. Nothing of particular importance could be done through it.

I got a lot of Pokemiles from Streetpasses. Unfortunately I never progressed far enough in the game to make practical use of them. :-/

I can't get the stupid code to show and I already registed Sun, Moon and Ultra Sun and Moon.

Edit: I keep getting "The special code will display only when you are logged in with a qualifying game." But I logged in! What else do you want? Go online using the 3DS web browser?

I got it. I think it means you need to start up the game on your 3DS, go to the Festival Plaza, and then connect to the Internet (i.e. by tapping the icon that looks like a Wi-Fi symbol in the lower right end of the touch screen).

I did that, still no stupid code. I even disabled ad blockers and all plug ins in my web browser.
