You can use faketik to get the games back, as someone just told me. And maybe get an updated version of the hb menu? Also btw, to use faketik, you need the hb menu. Or maybe just reinstall the hb menu, get a new version of luma, or give up

Hi, I just got a new 3ds from japan to use it as my hacked 3ds. I was going to factory reset the system and install a 64gb micro sd card before proceeding but I found that the previous owner set a system password for resetting the system. Should I just proceed to hacking then see if I can reset the data afterward?

just make sure the new sd card is formatted to fat32 32kb clusters before hand.

Short answer: Yes. Copy and paste will do if the target SD is FAT32 formatted.

Long answer: Copy and paste will do, but do not switch between the two SDs back and forth when playing games with anti-save-restore. This could lead to the games deleting their saves. This can be fixed by repairing the secure value with JKSM or Checkpoint.
Backing up saves is a good idea anyway.

A friend of mine recently had their 2DS fried by a wannabe electrician. I had hacked it for them, and they had a ton of games on it from CIAS. They bought a used 2DS, and thought that if they put their SD card in, their games would still be there. Needless to say it didn't work. My question is, is there some way for me to at least pull the save data from the old Nintendo ID and put them on the new one? How would I go about doing this? I thought about just moving the folders from the old ID to the new one, but I don't know if that would work. Can anyone help me out?

Normal 3DS SD card data is encrypted. In order to decrypt it, you will need the movable.sed which most people create during CFW installation these days. movable.sed can also be extracted from essential.exefs (created automatically by recent versions of GodMode9) or from a NAND backup (provided the NAND backup wasn't made with a very old version of GM9). Failing that, movable.sed for a particular 3DS can still be generated using a different 3DS that still has that particular 3DS in its Friend Code list.

Once you have movable.sed, you can mount the SD card using ninfs (formerly fuse-3ds) or alternatively save3ds if you happen to have a Mac or Linux computer. Both programs can decrypt the SD card data; with ninfs, you'll also need to unpack the decrypted save data using 3ds-save-tool. The result can be restored on a different 3DS using JKSM or Checkpoint.

If there are already save data backups on the SD card made with Checkpoint or JKSM, then those are unencrypted.

Otherwise, cracking the encryption from scratch will take several decades of computing time, on average. (No exaggeration.) You would have an easier time trying to recover the fried unit.

Just try to mount the NAND image with ninfs. GodMode9 has embedded essential.exefs for a pretty long time.

I cfw my n3ds about a year ago, has been working fine ever since. Today i did the guide on updating my b9s, apparently it all went pretty smooth, as i now have the latest Luma and B9s version.
I wanted to download the Poke Bank app, but i can't download anything from the official store because it prompts me to update my device's firmware.
How do i go about doing so?
Can i just update the regular way and my cfw will still work? Or should i avoid updating at all?

Did you try to update your 3DS via System Settings? If you did, maybe the problem is that you have an invalid/fake ticket from that title, and the eShop now detects it and prevents any download. Try the first and see if that solves the problem, if not, we need to make the process to remove the fake ticket.

No, i have not. I get the prompt, but i thought it would be wiser to ask here before i updated in case the latest firmware was not compatible. I've learned not to update to the latest firmware without asking from Apple and the iphone jailbreaks xD

Yes, go ahead and update, if you are on latest Luma (Ver. v10.0.1) it will be still compatible and there shouldn't be any problems

It really depends, there are various factors that determine how fast those boot. It could be the SD brand, the read/write speeds, even the age of the card may interfere. I would recommend to do a test to the card, and as always, make a backup first or you will loss your files. I can't remember which software are available to make full and reliable tests, but when I remember the name I'll let you know haha

Someone please answer, I got a used original 3DS for my friend, it came with a 2GB SD card, if I hack the 3DS with this card in the 3DS it came with can I later just move all the contents to another SD card? I told my friend if he wants to fit more stuff he will need a bigger card. But when you hack the 3DS is the stuff needed to hack it tied to the SD you used in any way? like once the 3DS is hacked can I just move everything from the 2GB SD card to the newer bigger capacity? or will I need to hack the 3DS again or something because i'd be using a different SD card?

Also, which is the easiest way to hack the 3DS currently?
