Are you using an exFAT sdcard?
Nah, it's FAT32. At the very least, I'm confident it was FAT32, though I could've made a mistake with how chaotic my schedule's been lately! (I HAAAAAATTTTEEEE college-work while not earning money *pillows head on top of laptop since the books they give you are those unusable POS with no bindings of which the pages fall apart more easily because...OK, college rant over)

But assuming it is FAT32, what could be wrong?

*sigh* Here comes another long backup session, boys and girls, when I have two finals to get ready for in 5 days... *sigh*

You should really, first, check on your computer if your sdcard is formated exFAT or FAT32 (there is a lot of tools to do so). If you really are in FAT32, then we'll debug that problem.

any chance of seeing network loading of ROMs? That would be amazing, primarily if it was via FTP or some such method and even if was as simple as choose the game -> download from source -> play ->if exit, then delete rom file.

This is definitively possible as I implemented a basic http browser (with any simple http server with directory listing) for a side project. This could be added there.

No, the regular saves ain't working. I tried this with both SNES and PS1 games, and can confirm that, for whatever reason, saving simply doesn't work consistently enough to where I don't feel like playing any RPGs anytime soon. Yeah, I know there's save states, but those come with the drawback of, if you load a save state when you meant to load, push the wrong combination of buttons, or whatever, all of the progress you made just goes "poof!"

Personally, I'd use RetroNX until this issue can be resolved to be consistent. I know RA has various issues atm, so it's best to just wait it out for them to iron out all of the bugs that can have big effects on, say, your playthrough of Xenogears!

EDIT: Woops didn't read, sorry

OLD POST: Boy do I have a solution for you, pressing the home button doesn't initiate saving, you must exit through the app itself by pressing + and - at the same time and pressing exit. This was a problem to me too but then I tried this and it worked. Hope it will work for you too.

I am not sure...

  • copy "psnes" directory to "/switch/" directory on sdcard
  • copy roms to "/switch/psnes/roms/" directory on sdcard
Copy psnes.nro or psnes folder to /switch ?

copy the whole folder, homebrew launcher can read nro inside folders
roms can be palced anywhere on the sd card i think

I tried this with both SNES and PS1 games,

I’m on exFat, I’ve been playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 (ps1) on and off for the past month, my progress is in tact every time... I’ve completed the game with about 8 characters, Max their stats, it’s awesome.

My saves and save states keep disappearing with Psnes. One game lost all saves after I quit, while now Fire Emblem 4 just lost 1 of its saves but still has 2 left, plus the save states.

And pSNES 2.2 is still there, waiting on github for a release. All the ingredients are here.
caligari filter commit has been there for months now, snes9x has been updated, we have new libnx 1.6.0.1, and so on...

But 0 instruction how to compile and using cmake with all those sub-sub-sub modules makes it a real nightmare.

Or maybe Cpasjuste is waiting for Xmas... Who knows...

exFAT will always (always) become corrupted eventually, which can cause files and folders to disappear and can cause other problems. The Switch OS itself is responsible for the corruption. Sometimes the corruption can be fixed on Windows by running chkdsk.

Many people say they have not encountered problems with exFAT. I challenge those people to run chkdsk. I bet they will already see all kinds of corruption in their Nintendo folder that they just haven't noticed yet.

Because of these problems, FAT32 is the way to go. It is possible to just make a backup of all files, re-format the SD card to FAT32, and then restore the files. Installed files in the Nintendo folder are already all <4GB, because the OS does that automatically when installing .nsp files. Guiformat.exe for Windows works well to easily format your SD Card with cluster size 32kb. For large (>4 GB) new .nsp files and your large .xci game cart backups, there are xci-cutter and nsp-splitter tools available to convert those .xci and .nsp files to 4Gb chunks so they work on FAT32.

It is worth it to make the change to FAT32, trust me. I have encountered so many problems with exFAT during my testing of the UAE4ALL2 emulator. Eventually, I switched to FAT32 and all my problems were gone
