I have a pretty good understanding of NSP files now (and XCis as a matter of fact lol), I'll work on removing dependencies to Tinfoil, and think If I want to continue sharing or not.

Can’t wait to see it. While you are on his road to redemption, you should probably cite the other scene code you used and didn’t credit.

I credited the authors of 4NXCI but not sure the name is correct xD
Feel free to point me toward the correct names.

I am referring to code / images from NX-Shell you used for the GUI. Assuming they originated from NX-Shell, that is the project I first saw them in. Either way, it's not your code and you should cite / credit where you got it from.

Hi,
This looks very nice and whilst we appreciate the "tribute", the name Directory Opus and variants thereof are our trademark. We'd appreciate it if you could choose an original name for your software.

Cheers,

yeah it does. you should speak with a trademark attorney, but basically directory opus has to try to enforce its trademark anytime it knows it is being misused, or they waive their right to the trademark. trademark law is complex, and i won’t even pretend like i know a lot about it. but i do know that it’s a lot about confusing the consumer. dOpus is similar in functionality to directory opus, and the same sounds similar. go start a new soda company called coch and see how quickly you get sued into bankruptcy .

dOPUS doesn't sound similar to Directory Opus to me, people call Directory Opus "dOPUS" for short but they still don't have a TM on it, this is bullshit if somebody thinks they're high and mighty for trying to put down a Homebrew app for the Switch (That is also non-profit) just because it's name uses a nickname shared with a file managing program that still isn't TM'd, fuck outta here with that shit lmao

You do not have to file for a trademark, to enforce a trademark. Do you even trademark law bro?

Hi, I'm definitely new to the Switch hacking scene but from what I see in this thread it looks like this community has has a few bad apples.

You should not be afraid of making homebrew more accessible because others are working on the same thing. Competition IS good and considering no one is gonna "lose" I find it baffling for people to throw you under the bus by using their open source code. Ironically these programs are used by pirates to illegally download and install new games. So telling someone they're "stealing" code is just dumb. Just give credit, and don't get mad more than one person is trying to further the modding scene, that's not how homebrew evolves.

PS. I don't think that Jonathon Potters guy is legit. Although troll or not, I would change the name. Not because I think you are in the wrong (his program is entirely different and called Directory OPUS, not dOPUS, I could call 7Up "Fizzy Up" and sue people for "nickname infringement") but to be safer than sorry. Best not to trigger the sue happy.

Actually, according to the following page DOpus is trademarked also,

https://www.gpsoft.com.au/footer/copyrights.html

The bit right at the end also sounds like hes a pretty litigious fellow. BUT, that doesnt mean you should change anything based on some random claiming to be him.

Look at some of the other trademarks on that page tho.
