I used DBI to install Super Bomberman R2 and the 1.3.1 update. The base file is in XCI format. The size for the XCI base and NSP update 2.3.1 is about 7.5gb. After installing the game I look in the Data Management and saw that the installed game plus update only used 5.1gb on my microSD card. Is that normal?

Yes. XCIs are shared in two ways:
- Raw dump - it copies 1:1 whole cartridge, also with empty space. 8 GB cartridge is actually around 7.5 GiB.
- Trimmed dump - it removes empty space.

You have used raw dump and from that 7.5 GiB only part of it had actual data. When installing game this empty space is not copied, also partition containing system update is also ignored.

Thank you for the clear explanation.
