Have you run minverchk?

1. Create a folder called "PS3" on the root of your USB flash drive
   
   
2. Create a folder within the PS3 folder called "UPDATE"
   
   
3. Extract MinVerChk into the UPDATE folder, ensure it is named "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
   
   
4. Plug flash drive into the right-most USB port on your PS3
   
   
5. On the XMB, navigate to "System Update" under Settings and choose "Update via Storage Media"
   
   
6. Run the update, and a message will appear stating "Update data of version ____ or later can be installed on this system". If this number is 3.56 or lower, your model is compatible with CFW. Consoles that report 3.56 still contain the original hardware keys for 3.55 and therefore are compatible with any CFW or OFW above 3.55.

If you want to upgrade the HDD, do it before the jailbreak, you can leave the game on the system, you don't need to wipe before Jailbreak. I upgraded from 40GB to 1TB before jailbreak.

i got a 500GB HDD in it already, i dont plan on overloading this thing, just the dozen physical games i own and a few emulators. mostly RPG's on the ps3 side.

All ps3s are modable - Some models can do more than others

Use rebug newest and yes has ftp

@ModderFokker619 looking at the guide that was provided, he uses ferrox. i looked into rebug but i dont know how to install it since the file is less than 1mb, i dunno how to patch it.

Grab newest 4.82x CFW - Bigger than 1MB for sure

Install it and prosper
