My cousin is moving out of the town and he gifted me his PS3 Super Slim with HEN. He already has some games on it, and due respect I don't really wanna step on his savefiles and mess it up, so I made backups of it and put it on a cloud server so he only can access to it. Now I have this PS3 Super Slim and I personally had done only one jailbreak on a console which is my PSTV (which was my first post here :3), I have this spare 256gb ssd laying around so I thought why not I try to jailbreak a PS3. I know I can clone the HDD to SSD but I thought that was boring and wanted to try jailbreak a PS3.

My questions are:
What pitfalls can I ran into?
Since I am putting a new drive in the PS3 that's already jailbroken one, does it do anything bad? Or I can just do a normal jailbreak like a normal blank PS3?

Assuming from the time, you mostly found the answers, but if not, I proceed to explain. If I remember all right, you should have no problems on general doing it, unless your Blu-Ray Drive is dead, which will not let you install an update.

You can follow the steps on "How to Reinstall System Software" from Official Sony FW Page. Keep in mind some USB Sticks could be not compatible with PS3 even if formated to FAT32, due to partition tables (you can test it formatting first, then inserting onto the PS3 before doing all the process and see if it is detected), and the obvious things : Your old HDD will moslty render unusable again on the PS3, so back up anything important apart from saves from it; and in case it was not obvious, you have to do all the "Reinstall System Software" with the SSD inserted.

Once there, you can proceed to Jailbreak with HEN once again. You will have to install the HFW corresponding to your FW version (if following this, should be 4.93), then install HEN through the webpage. A more detailed guide can be found here.

Apart from that, the only thing that come to my mind as possible problems is
  • Your SSD is not compatible with SATA1 (I doubt it)
  • PS3 don't recognize the SSD (because is not formatted as MBR. You can check it Disk Management on Windows, and follow this guide to change it to MBR if needed)
Hope it helps you.
