I recently got a ps3 with no hard drive so I bought an ssd for it. I'm trying to download system software 4.92 and it keeps telling me no applicable update data was found. I formatted my drive to FAT32 with guiformat and used diskpart to convert it to MBR. I also unplug my controller while it's looking because I read that can be a problem and still nothing. I'm stuck on this I'd appreciate any help.

PS3 is really picky just dealt with this 2 days you have to not only convert to MBR and FAT32 you also have to choose logical before formatting. And then once you do that make a folder on the root of the usb drive called UPDATE put the update in it and call the update PS3UPDAT.PUP and after doing those things you should be able to update. But if it still doesn't work try it in recovery mode instead of on the XMB.

Also use the right usb port instead of the left one. If none of these still work report back.

How do I do that? Im new to all of this

If you mean how do you choose logical use Disk Genius right click it delete all partitions then right click again choose format then choose MBR and FAT32 and make sure it's only 1 partition. Then right click on the drive and choose convert to logical, save and you should be good. Then I laid out instructions on how to apply the update to the usb drive in the previous post just follow them.

Still nothing

ohhh i know this one is it for a cfw OR a normal Official Firmware? if its for a CFW all you need to do is first make sure your console is patched (basickly go to a website from burgrvile or smth) it will start a patcher then ou go to system information once on it you click on firmware (smth) -> from http and start the patch once that done you reboot your ps3 have the flash ready with the correct file go to system setting click from a usb device (or local device) then it will work!

Where are you downloading the update data from? Do you have file name extensions enabled on your PC? Make sure it's not named to ps3updat.pup.pup as that could be a possibility which then it won't be seen as applicable update data.

so for that you download them if you want a official firmware you download them from sony for hen i dont realy remeber and for cfw like for evilnat (make sure your ps3 supports it!) its straight from psx place

you dont need extantion on your pc you just make sure its properly named "PS3UPDAT.pup" in the folder of your root usb that was formated in FAT32 (if not make sure to do that (warning it will delete all the data on your flash drive you selected)) then create a folder named /PS3/UPDATE/ and in there put the PS3UPDAT.pup in there go to your ps3 go to the video section and look if your usb apear if not you will need a other one (smaller 8-16gb helps) but if it does go to system settings update then select update from storage and then do the proceedure

If OP has file named to ps3updat.pup.pup, it won't be recognized. That's why I was asking him if he does or does not have file extensions turned on. If he does, he just needs to rename it to ps3updat as the .pup will be hidden. It happens more often than one would think. Lol. Yes for OFW you get that from Sony. Any HFW/CFW/HEN would come from the creator which is somewhere on this site and if it's not, it'll generally be on github.
