I have a 4.1 US switch. I'm wanting to install ReiNX (?) in order to play backups of my legitimate game(s) because I hate physical media. I only have 1 game right now Mario Odyssey. What is the procedure for this? Is there a good guide? I saw a decent guide here but I guess it's gone.

Ahem
HEY EVERYONE, IT'S THE REISWITCHED SUPER SHOW!

DZo7ejK.png

ReiNX has the ease of use of Hekate, the sigpatches of SX OS, and the memes of the ReiSwitched discord. It's just the best thing ever, guys.
So, you want to install ReiNX?

Good, you probably should. Now that it has working sigpatches, ReiNX is the most effective free CFW on the market right now! But you're gonna need to get into the thing, so that's where this helpful guide comes into play. You'll need a few things before we get started:

If you brick your Switch somehow- which would be impressive, honestly- I'm not responsible for that. If you follow these instructions to the letter, you'll have a working and more importantly sexy custom firmware on your system that will suit all your legal needs!
Installing NSP files is going to get you banned. This is only for people who are indifferent about being banned or have been banned already. You were warned.

  • A Nintendo Switch console
  • An SD Card that's been formatted to be used by your Nintendo Switch
  • A USB C to USB A cable
  • Some way to get into RCM mode, please consult this comprehensive list of ways to enter RCM mode.
  • The sheer willpower and hype to take your console to the next stratosphere!
Now that you have all the hardware, you'll need some software, too.
Please go to the ReiSwitched Discord, located here, and say hello while you're there! There's a file called Darth Meteos' Super Special SD Stash v3.1, that has sigpatches in it to allow you to run NSP backups. The zip file has everything you need for the installation ahead, as well as a copy of the Tinfoil homebrew, that can install any NSP files, and install them to either the NAND or the SD card. There's also a folder called Meteos Recommends! with optional extras for newcomers or people just interested to try some recommended games. The zip file will also contain a bin payload to boot the CFW. However, if you've never connected your Switch to a computer, you'll need to do a couple of things first, to get the drivers playing fair. This guide is assuming that you've already done that, but if you're brand new to the scene- welcome, by the way- you'll need to do some one-time setup.

This is only for Windows Operating Systems, because that's what I have.
You'll need to download a couple of things, first.
  1. Once you've got those, connect your Switch in RCM mode to your computer. Windows will recognize an APX device. This is good!
  2. Run Zadig with admin privileges. On the dropdown menu, find APX. That's your Switch!
  3. Next to a green arrow, there will be a series of driver types that you can cycle through. Choose libusbK (v3.0.7.0), and do it carefully, because this is the most important step.
  4. Click the big button. Congratulations, your Switch is now ready to run payloads!
  5. Extract the folder from the TegraRcmGUI_vX.X_portable.zip that you downloaded, (with X.X being the version, mine is 2.1) and open TegraRCMGUI.
  6. To run payloads, simply click the folder icon and browse to the testpayload.bin and inject the payload. Congratulations on running your first payload!
Now, for the main installation.
  1. Power off your Switch and connect your Switch's SD Card to a computer of your choice.
  2. Extract the contents of the zip file you downloaded. There'll be a bin file, an SD Files folder, a folder called Meteos Recommends!, as well as a little readme. You should read it, it has ASCII art and people who want their name in lights pleasereadtheirnames. Check the spoilered text for what it should look like:
    a6x4o5P.png
  3. Go into the SD Files folder and drag the contents onto the root of your SD Card. Overwrite everything.
NOTE: If you don't know your firmware, you can find it in the system settings menu. The latest (as of this writing) is 5.1.0.
  4. If your card was empty except for the Nintendo folder beforehand, you should have a layout like the one in the spoiler:
    HXwutmO.png
  5. If you're interested, copy the contents of the Meteos Recommends! folder onto the root of your SD Card as well, and merge the folders. Each new release will contain Homebrew App Store, as well as other goodies that differ per release. Check the ReadMe for more information.
  6. Now that the SD Card is set up, please return it to your Nintendo Switch and enter into RCM mode through the method of your choice.
  7. Using TegraRCMGUI, inject the ReiNX.bin Payload from the Stash package to get into your Switch.
  8. After the cute animu grill vanishes and you see the Nintendo Switch logo, you can disconnect the Switch from your computer. You're in!
Accessing the homebrew menu is easy, just open the album! Inside will be Tinfoil at least, but you can add many more homebrew apps, perhaps using the Homebrew App Store in the Meteos Recommends! folder, which in turn has basically everything you could ever want. Keep an eye on the 'Temp, though, for future updates~

When inside the homebrew menu, you can use Tinfoil to install nsp files, by placing them into the /tinfoil/nsp/ folder on your SD Card. All homebrew goes into the /switch/ folder.

As more features are added, this tutorial will be updated.

If you don't need NOGC, delete the nogc file in the ReiNX folder. It will make the CFW run faster, too.

Thank you so much for making the choice to use ReiNX!

Mine also 5.1, using SX OS playing XCI games. So far is ok. Provided your switch are not patched.

I believe my Switch is one of the unpatched units (haven't tested it) based on the serial number. It's actually not my intention to update the firmware but it was asking for a system update in order to read the microsd card.

BTW can I break my switch if I do the jig thing wrong and break a pin or something? Or is just the joycon rail easy to replace? Because I'm terrible at those things

Hello Everyone,
first of all sorry, this probably got asked already, but i wish for updated news.
I just got my first switch, and despite being a 4.1 the serial suggrest me its vulnerable.
I know there's no "100% ban proof method" but i'd like some guidelines.
My plan was:
Boot normally, go online, play my owned games, do updates etc, nomally.
Enable airplane mode
Boot into sxos and play backups while being offline.
When i finish, i start a legit game from the card so the "last played" get updated with a game legilty own.
boot back into official and use it normally.
i wont be using sxos online.
i wont be updating backups.
sxos will be activated offline.
i wont leave a backup as the last played game.
i will only go online on ofw.
How many chances of getting banned i've while keeping the behavior?

What if my backups are ACTUAL backups? i mean, instead of downloading them from internet, i backup my friend's legit game card?

Before doing anything, should i proceed with a NAND backup? will that be dangerous (ban-wise)?
Thank you all for your time.

i have a question, is the current hacking method by injecting a payload, can be used to full access to the bootrom (or whatever is called on the switch)

Then that's fine. USER also stores update and DLC data so keep that in mind if you don't restore it.
You'll have to go spelunking through your NAND dump as we don't have a means to dump NSPs directly from our consoles. Alternatively, you can download the DLC using CDNSP Bob or Doge which still involves knowing the title ID of the DLC.

Hi Thanks very much for your reply! :) I'm needing the physical game files from the DLC itself. I found an uploaded DLC on another site , but using hactool I managed to extract this NCA file from the NSP: "70adb7443f16f7337d50394ad5a35bfd.nca" with a file size of 1.35 GB, so I'm assuming that this is the file which has what I'm after inside it. Note that I'm merely trying to extract the game files from the DLC to use on an earlier FIFA videogame on PC - I don't have a physical NS Switch device.

Picked up an SX Pro. Running 5.1. Couple of questions regarding game updates and nand backup.

- I installed AutoCRM, loaded some games, updated octopath via internet. Was that enough to put me on nintendos shitlist?
- Uninstalled AutoCRM after some reading. Can i backup my NAND now and treat it as original or is there no going back?
- Whats the safest way to go about getting a game update for games on my SD card via the CDN?

1. Sadly, but yes.
2. Your nand backup will now have traces of SX OS and played games, but it will never hurt to have one.
3. idk, sorry.

Hi, I get sx pro soon, why it is useful to have a clean nand dump? If I get banned, it won’t rescue me. On the other side sx pro does not change the software of the switch. So how can a nand dump be usefull?

You can read up in that tool here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/4nxci-open-source-xci-to-nsp-converter.513758/ I know it works with the current CFWs but I'm not sure what is also needed to make it work if anything at all.

You're going to be jamming metal into your console, specifically tiny pins in the Joy-Con rail. You can read up on the possible dangers here. I've heard that the rail is cheap and easy to replace though. And if you're really worried about damaging the console, you can install AutoRCM so you don't have to worry about using a jig. You just have to make sure you either leave the console on/in sleep mode or turn it off via manual shutdown or through Hekate's power off option.

To avoid sounding like a broken record, I will point you to the quote in the first post of this thread as the only ways to avoid a ban. Your current plan has a higher chance of getting banned than restoring a clean NAND backup prior to going online.
i have a question, is the current hacking method by injecting a payload, can be used to full access to the bootrom (or whatever is called on the switch)
Yes but according to some of the reputable hackers, you don't need to inject a payload to access the bootrom.

While it won't rescue you after being banned, it can prevent you from being banned in the first place. And that is because SX Pro does indeed change the software of the Switch. SX OS is a CFW that modifies Horizon to enable you to play backups and there is a chance that Nintendo can detect these changes even if you run it offline because the console can store information about the CFW and send that info when the console is connected online, with or without SX OS running. That is why its recommended to restore a clean NAND dump before going online to reduce your chances of a ban because some people have been banned believing SX OS could not be detected offline.

thanks for the answer, so it's possible to make one that doesn't need injecting every time, just entering RCM mode will activate the hack.

Exactly, however these exploits are likely not going to be released until Mariko units show up in the market since those patch our current RCM exploit which is the only one we have for current Switch revisions.

I am not talking about the unreleased hack, i am talking about the current one with the inject payload method, can we inject something in the bootrom directly or we can't?

If you are talking about modifying the bootrom, we cannot because it is read-only. If you are referring to other methods of injecting payloads, we would need an exploit that gives us access to the bootrom in the first place which would be either the current exploit or a theoretical unreleased one.
