Slowly getting ready to hack my switch. It's updated to (5.0.1) so I'm gonna have to use the paperclip. I have a 128GB Sandisk in the mail. A normal android cell phone cable is good for usb-a to usb-c?

First of, how do I know if my switch is now updated to exFat or if I need to do I use this gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-install-the-exfat-driver-without-updating-2-x.505176/ ?

Then I follow this guide to make a NAND backup gbatemp.net/threads/switch-hacking-101-how-to-launch-the-homebrew-menu-on-all-fw.504012/

After I use this to install reiNX gbatemp.net/threads/guide-reinx-installation-and-use.512342/
Most USB-C to USB-A cables are good enough. For the exFAT update, insert an exFAT formatted SD card into your Switch and see if it asks you to download the update. Once you verify you have it or not, follow the guides you have listed.
Question: Is it safe to update firmware via Game .nsp I install while in Hetake? "This game requires you to update firmware"
Not entirely so it might be a good idea to install the game updates via .NSP as well.
This might be a stupid question but how do I check if AutoRCM is enabled without actually rebooting and finding out?
I'm asking because I updated without burning fuses, I went and enabled AutoRCM, but then didn't see any prompt or message telling me its now currently enabled. I dont want to just reboot to find out as I'll burn a fuses if its not actually enabled.
This is why I don't like Hekate's implementation of AutoRCM as it doesn't tell you whether its installed or not while briccmii does. The only thing I can think of is dumping your boot0 partition and compare it to someone else's dump of boot0 which doesn't have AutoRCM, like through a hash check.

I guess I could hope CTCaer implements something in his next release that tells you this, and then jump into using that version when its out. Right now I'm stuck guessing if I've turned it on or not.

Almost tempted to just reboot right now and put myself out of my misery.

Hey so I have my switch on 3.0 and want to fool around with it, but I want to b able to downgrade to 3.0 later when (if) software solutions arise for that firmware.

I want to update to latest without burning fuses, but also to install the exFat update without upgrading officially. I know there are guides for both things, but which ones should I follow, and in what order?

Open up an issue on the GitHub page and he will most likely implement it. There is nothing bad that can come out of implementing this.

This will give you the exFAT update AND update without burning fuses. It has an option to not get the exFAT update if you so choose to because it generates exFAT support by default.

Ahhh thanks! Is that the guide that also burns the cart reader fuses? Because iirc there was a way to avoid the cart reader problem if you ever downgraded again.
Yes, it has a custom sysmodule for you to run to prevent the cartridge slot from being updated when running a firmware of 4.0 or higher. Its in big red text so its hard to miss.

Thank you, But I think you mis-understood the question. Its not about Game Updates. Its about Firmware. BOTW DLC REQUIRES 4.x.x, while in Hetake, should I let it "Update the firmware to play" or should I update the firmware while in vanilla sysnand via nintendo or gamecart?

Hey everyone! So if my new Switch out of the box is not 5.1.0 and I have my SX Pro coming, should I update it now before it gets here? Do I update if after I jailbreak it with the SX Pro? Which should I do?

If you update the firmware on the console, it will reboot and burn fuses. If you don't want to burn fuses, you can follow the tutorial on how to update without burning fuses. Otherwise, you can just update the firmware on the console by downloading it from Nintendo.

You can update with or without burning fuses. If you burn fuses, you will not be able to downgrade in case you want to enjoy the benefits of exploits that don't require a jig and USB cable/dongle. If you want to update without burning fuses, here is a tutorial on how to do so: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/

There is an easier way of updating without burning fuses but you will have to wait until you get your SX Pro to do it. https://gbatemp.net/threads/an-easy...ch-firmware-without-burning-any-fuses.511847/ Bear in mind that this will prevent cartridge games from working on firmwares below 4.0.

Also note that both guides will have you install AutoRCM to prevent the fuses from being burnt.

If it ask me to update for exFat, might as well do it from nintendo before hacking it?

Thanks

Yes, that is a luxury most people have missed out on. Since your console is on 5.0.1, it will also update your Switch to 5.1 because that is the latest firmware. But don't fret as the number of fuses burnt for 5.0.1 is the same as 5.1. And in case you don't know what fuses are, they are an anti-downgrade mechanism in the device.

Perfect, my mistake I'm on 5.1, so no problem there :)

Is there any way to block specific IP addresses on your modem to avoid sending log files to Nintendo?

Is it possible to install and run DevMenu from ReiNX, or do I need to follow this guide and use hekate/layeredfs: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-use-devmenu-on-4-0-0-5-1-0-offline.512627/
ReiNX cannot run DevMenu through LayeredFS, but if its installed as an .NSP first, it should be possible. I don't know if Rommenu can install DevMenu, but DevMenu can install DevMenu. Just exercise caution with the DevMenu NSP as some builds have been known to wipe the masterkeys from your Switch.

That would depend on your modem/router. Alternatively, there are some programs that can block IP addresses for you. A full list can be found here: https://switchbrew.org/index.php?title=Network

The games themselves may have been used on a Switch with a higher version causing the prompt to appear.
Also try the following to remove the update:

Tried that, still prompts, maybe I done it wrong or it doesn't work for game updates.

I tried an original cart that I've never even used yet (Arms) and that was claiming software update available as well. It's not a system update prompt as it's on the latest 5.1.0, just thinks games have an update for some reason.

I didn't think of this before and I've hardly used my switch, so not sure how it works. But when I went online to get 5.1.0, Mario odyssey was in the recently played games list as it was what I was playing before I got my sx pro. That definitely has an update and the console had never been online before, so previously wouldn't know about it. Is that the problem? Is it just a general flag, the system knows a piece of software (Mario) has an update, so now just harrases me no matter what software I launch to get the system back online to get the update?

So I just reread your original post and I realized where the problem lies: the Switch connected to the Internet. It most likely houses a database of updates that is downloaded once you connect online. The process I gave you should have gotten rid of the update though. You can also try running DevMenu because it has an option to clear game updates.

I'll try again, maybe I did it wrong or too soon. I had wifi off, and just cancelled before it complained no internet. Did I need to have wifi on when doing it. If it won't play nice I'll look into dev menu or just ignore it, not a huge deal to just hit start to play.

The Switch has a nasty habit of connecting to the Internet when there are Wi-Fi settings in place. It even has hidden Wi-Fi settings to connect to Nintendo Hotspots. Best to remove the update in Airplane Mode.
