What are the odds we will be able to boot Lakka without the need for a PC or android device in the future?

They said the next vita exploit would take 10 years and here we are today. They said the same about the golden firmware being 3.0.0. Anything is possible
They also said booting ds games off of an sd card on a 3ds would be nearly impossible and now we got most of the library on twloader

I have retroarch on horizon rn and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to switch to lakka

Thoughts?

Horizon version of Retroarch doesn't currently have hardware acceleration, Lakka does, if that's any consolation.

So is it safe to use or is it extremely dangerous for your Switch? If there is a 90% chance it won't do any harm I'm willing to use it, any lower and I'll pass.

Very unlikely, the only things you MIGHT have a problem with is screen burnin, which this is only going to be a problem if you're literally staring at the menu the whole time doing nothing, and battery desync, which has been long fixed on Lakka itself, but you risk if and only if you're running AutoRCM

I can do everything, i tried a few sd cards and another cables but it wont start (black screen):hateit:

Out of curiosity, how are you dropping the files onto the SD card? there should be(last I checked) two folders you put in the root of your SD card, but I remember using 7Zip, and instead of two folders, it had a folder containing the two folders, assuming this is the behavior of 7Zip with Gzipped tars.

Is there a mirror for the actual releases? The link on the main install page seems to be down :(

It's on the discord server

Hello!, I just got my new switch today, is coming with firmware version 4.0.1 meaning that is hackable but I really have certain concerns about these two options, the team xecuter SX OS and Retroarch Lakka, I just want some advice from those already experienced with these options; what I want is pretty much what everybody wants: capability to run backups of actual switch games like Zelda BOTW, I want to run emulators at least for nes, snes, n64 and psp, so, as I have been looking around the web I still dont have a complete idea about what features have each one of them, so the big question is which system, either sx os or lakka do you recommend to me? Thanks!

Tried Super Monkey Ball on Dolphin core.
Amazing how far this is coming but unfortunately this game at least is unplayable.
Floor textures are missing and speed in game is very slow.
Speed is fixed at 999MPH for some reason.
Like I said though, still pretty amazing it even boots up etc for this early on.

They are not even comparable. Lakka is Linux while sx os is a modded switch os. Lakka can only play emulators while sx os can play backups and Homebrew. You can run the retro nx Homebrew through sx os though. Retro nx supports docked and sound but does not support ds, n64, psp and GameCube.

Yeah you shouldn't be banned since it runs Linux instead of horizon.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
