cheers. im more of a hands on bloke...im good at fixing bike brakes etc than fixing software if you get my drift ...hence why the drive teardown was easy with the ifixit guide....and easier for me than softmodding...ive looked at this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...backup-wii-gamecube-and-wiiware-games.360687/ and believe me when i say i'm much more comfortable with a screwdriver and the drive. lol

Aye, I guess at first glance that can look daunting. I work in IT so I'm used to such things. All I could suggest is do it in parts. Split the guide up and do a section at a time, maybe one part each evening. It might look confusing in all it's entirety but once you're in the swing of it, it's all fairly straight forward. The reason for all the parts in that guide is that they're also getting you to backup your system files too, that way if something were to go wrong, you could restore it. But so long as you follow the instructions in order, nothing would go wrong. Once it's all done though, you're laughing. It's really neat having a playlist to select from, with box art and everything and the kids would get used to it in no time.

Anyway, good luck with it all whatever you decide. I'm sure it will all be fine.

I've looked at every video and teardown I can find and I don't see that part but I do think it belongs in the drive. It's got to be some kind of retaining clip rather than some part of unknown origin that a child happened to stick in there. Maybe from one of the sides of the drive for the rubber roller assembly?

Suggesting softmods when he's trying to repair hardware is really getting annoying. It's like suggesting changing your shampoo when asking for car repair advice. They have nothing to do with each other.

LOL i like that comparison mate :) ....i wouldve gone with "im asking to fix my drum brake but they keep trying to get me to install a new disc one" ;)

yep i agree, i think it looks like its meant to be there aswell, ive had this wii since they first came out and the kids have never put anything in until now, ..although it could of been someone else..one of their friends? theyve always looked after it and their games.

well the drives back together and spinning anyway....i will connect it to the tv in a bit to make sure for definite ....that 'shes alive'! ...

Your Wii do what you like with it matey, you are the one who is missing out not the rest of us :) No offense taken..
I dont play it mate - its the kids ....if i gave them every game available on a harddrive it'd be spoiling them....at the mo they go to CEX and buy a game for a quid or two out of their pocket money once in a while...it gives them independence and teaches them the value of money...i dont think they or i would be missing out.
