Damn man, I'm a big fan of your work on NES games, I even enjoy these on my wiiu with Nestopia [emoji16]

Thank you! :-) I'm very happy with how they both turned out, hope you are using the latest final versions of them.

I still don't know how to get boxarts setup? I have my rom folders arranged as how the first page of this thread describes. But I don't know where to create the directory for all of the boxart, and where to obtain the boxart for retroarch specifically? Thank you!

You can obtain the thumbnails via a PC tool called Playlist buddy.
You can find the info under the "Making Lists" Spoiler :)

I have a question. I as playing MAME 2003, and I was able to have my wiimote connect to retroarch. I was playing Turtles In Time.

Player 1 was game pad
Player 2 was wiiu pro controller
Player 3 was wiimote
Player 4 retroarch wouldn't recognize the 2nd wiimote

So I shut the wiiu off, and when I went to try using the wiimote again, it no longer gets recognized.

Could someone please explain what I need to do to get retroarch to recognize my wiimotes? Thanks!

@ploggy @ShadowOne333 What's the most stable build to use that's recent? 1.7.0 vanilla or one of the January builds? :P I haven't updated in some time XD
Well since Overlays and Shaders are in (Shaders aren't fully implemented or need to be converted from SLANG to GSH though) I'm always on the latest ;)

Hmm, I don't plan on using overlays, shaders perhaps, not sure, but I just installed 1.7.0 vanilla, but I wanted to check first :P

You can configure each controller manually in Settings>Input>Input User Binds 2 3 and 4 (keep 1 the WiiU Gamepad)
Then check the "All Users Control Menu" option (makes life easier in the long run) ;)
Then back out and quit (this will save your Controller options) :)

I managed to config 3 extra Wiimote's like this just now ;)

In the input user binds, I only see "WiiU Gamepad" & "WiiU Pro Controller" I'm still unable to get my wiimotes detected.

Yes they show up as disabled for me too but once you start mapping the buttons it does save. (its a Bug I think)

Hmm, I'm trying to make user 3 and user 4 for the wiimotes, my wiimotes are on. I use the game pad to go to the user 3 bind menu, but I'm unable to set the buttons with either the gamepad, or wiimotes. This is all pretty confusing.

Wait, now it seems to be working. I'll report back.

Hmm, my 2nd Wilmote is not being noticed?

I as able to set user 3 binds with my wiimote on channel 2.

But when I went to set user 4 binds, my 2nd wiimote which is on channel 3, was not detected at all, and it was only able to be edited with the wiimote I used for the 3rd player bind.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So this is pretty confusing. My 2nd wiimote, which is a regular wiimote, will not allow me to set the bindings for user 4. Only my wiimote with built in motion plus, which I have set as user 3, is the only wiimote which allows me to edit user 4.

Idk what else to do, I've got 1 working, but not the other.

I'm not sure, all the Wiimotes I tested are all regular Wiimotes and manually configured without issue..
Are all your Wiimotes official?
You could try syncing them again in the WiiU Menu then try mapping them in Retroarch? See if that makes a difference?

Have you had any issues with the latest nightlies for Wii U?

Hayato even said it's dangerous to backup the save files to CFW

For example, HOW is is risky to get banned if you extract the save files to the CFW?
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
isn't this proccess be done while you're offline?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We are not Nintendo, so we don't know exactly how/why/when they ban, but better to stay on the safe side and not do shady stuff, if you don't want to be banned. Hayato is one of the most knowledgeable ones here on the subject and I believe what he says.

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Yes ofc we don't know how Nintendo bans work, but if there are situations where a lot of people have tried safely then we can at least assume that this path is pretty much safe. To say don't try anything homebrew relative just to be safe forever is the easiest thing to say to someone. What I am trying to figure out here is with which cases and what actions got most of the people their bans for.
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Most things I can find resulting to a ban is save-editing reasons, like Pokehex, etc, and going online afterwards.
