Homebrew Is there any way to play the Castlevania DS games on my 3DS w/ Homebrew? (Other than TWLoader)

lol . . . super card ds 2 + yeah thats my personal recommendation but i am often met with resistance from the community whenever i suggest it

I originally started a thread asking about that very card because GBATemp's Flashcard comparison chart says its the best. But someone said it drains the DS battery or something.

it does because it has its own cpu not many flashcards have one (i think there were only two other cards to have an on-board cpu) it allowed for stronger emulators than other ds flashcards and of course all the features that are now standard like realtime saves cheats . . . it still has unique features like the ability to look at guides you import for your game mid-game without quitting the game

I wouldn't recommend you to buy a DStwo, I had the original release for DS on my 3DS and it decreased the battery life of the device and it was always really hot to the touch, I once noticed my lower screen had a black spot increasing in size, first i thought the LCD screen broke but the spot disappeared a few days after I sold the flashcart. if you don't care about homebrew or snes or gba emulation on the DS I would recommend you a cheaper card like an R4i.

also, in my opinion the best of the 3 is portrait of ruin, followed by order of ecclesia (the hardest metriodvania in the whole franchise), and last is Dawn of sorrow.

. . . did you have a hardcover or silicone case on the ds ? . . . a battery pack perhaps ? . . . i have never had my system heat like that nor have i heard of an issue like that . . . you may have just had a faulty unit

I just had the original dstwo cart in the slot 1 in a vanilla o3ds, no battery packs, no silicon cases, nothing else. I really don't know if the issue was the heat emitted by the cart or something else, but once i sold the cart the spot dissapeared, and it wasn't that small, I would say it was like 10x10 pixels approximately.

I have a DSTT card. It was very inexpensive (make sure you get a legit one, though!) and it's run all of the games and homebrew that I've thrown at it without any issues. The only disadvantage is that it can't be launched from the home menu directly, even with Luma. I run it with Apache Thunder's NTR Slot-1 launcher and keep the regular gamecard launcher off to the side a few pages, out of the way.

did you buy the naked card or you bought it when they were still making them? can you run pokemon black 2 with your DSTT?

The DS Castlevania games, excluding SOTN are my favorites ones! :D
Anyways, if your 3DS doesn't have CFW yet you'll want one that isn't blocked. The R4i 3DS works on the latest official update from Nintendo (11.5 as of this post.) I use it on my non-cfw system all the time. If you already have cfw I recommend the Acekart2i. I just got mine the other day and it's fantastic. (It just can't run on official firmware. ;-; Though it'll work on DS phat/lite and DSi on 1.44 and lower.)
Once you pick out a flashcart, you should totally play Order of Ecclesia since you didn't yet. :P

I bought it within the last year or so, so it came with just the card. I had to provide my own micro sd card and firmware. I used the firmware from here https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/ because it was the easiest to set up and it looked the nicest.

Haven't gotten around to playing Black 2 yet, but it boots and I was able to start a new game, so I guess that's a yes?

Edit: Yes, CFW is required to run a DSTT card because you need the ability to install the launcher, which is a .cia file.

R4i Gold (r4ids.cn): Runs Wood R4 which is a modified version of the Acekard Kernel to run on R4, M3 Simply, and R4i Gold (r4ids.cn.) It's basically praised for introducing all of the Acekard features so it basically had almost all the same features as akAIO. The only feature it didn't have was individual loader updates. Otherwise it had basically everything else.
I always suggest it because it's extremely light on the battery, the ROM performance is perfect, the RTS is stable and simple, it's easy and highly customizable, homebrew soft-reset, and so many other features. I personally think it's the best kernel next to akAIO and it's also why I always suggest the R4i Gold over other carts.

Just my opinion : get the cheapest R4 card(for 3ds) you find, i bought mine for 8$ and the games run identical to ds (no rts but is it really that important?)

Only thing you have to remember is not deleting roms codes from their names or else the card won't read them.

I forgot! If your 3DS is hacked I also suggest the Ak2i
Acekard 2i: All the fun of Wood R4, although it lacks the RTS. The main reason I suggest the Ak2i is because it's hands down the most homebrew/hacker friendly flashcart. AkAIO can be used as loader for Moonshell, Menudo, and other homebrew kernels. This means if you are bored of your current kernel, you can easily switch it out for something better and not loose your akAIO loader. As well other projects like the one I am working on right here.
(R4i Gold has a Moonshell version too, but this is just an example of one of features that's easier done on the Ak2i compared to the R4i Gold)
I also suggest nds-card over any other site since buying from them helps support the Temp

It's also hand-crafted by the Yellow Wood Goblin himself.

I remember back in the day that some of the ds castlevania games had some issues with stuttering on certain flash cards or was it slower micro sd cards...

I also remember trying out those same games with the faster clock speed using NTR-Launcher and they actually seemed to work better. I didn't do any solid play through so I wouldn't know if it caused crashes elsewhere by enabling the higher clock speed. Probably most important to get a speedy high quality micro sd card and format it right and will likely play just fine.

But just letting you know what I have experienced and am happy to know what others know.

How do I know if I have CFW? I am running on 11.5.0, I know that. I thankfully found a used 3DS XL that was running 9.9 (I checked 5 different systems until I found one...the guy at the store was confused as to why)

I would be too, given that anything up to (I believe) 11.3 is hackable.

Yep I've already got it hacked! So if all I wanna do is mostly play DS games (again, specifically Castlevania) this is what I want?

I know but the Soundhax thing looked the easiest for me. I'm not the savviest when it comes to this sorta thing.
