Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

Nvidia-T210.jpg

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

So can it possibily run a new Metroid? Or you know... any other of their dead IPs that isn't Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart?

Since there is already a lot of userspace exploitation going on, and we already have the drivers for the Tegra X1, I'm willing to put down real money that, at some point, someone is going to port android to this thing. (Also, Hello fellow Wololo readers! Welcome to GBATemp! enjoy the whiny fanboys and mindless Doublethink arguments :rofl2: )
I'm a wololo regular :D

Because the win10 store sucks & uwp sucks. Highly restrictive format vs win32. Play anywhere will never take a significant amount of players from steam, while the store is awful and the format the games are in is a restrictive format incompatible with a lot of stuff pc gamers use.

Also the prices on the win10 store suck on play anywhere titles as it has to be priced the same as the console version.

I think the "store sucks" argument is weird, it's not like you play the store you just see it for like 30 seconds then never again for that game. It's like getting an inferior automobile because you like the dealer. Is it valid? Yes it is, just not the way I personally think.

If it wasn't the same price as console there would be a loophole. Xbox one sold something around 20 million - 30 million units, assuming not a good amount of these owners have steam is naive. Assuming they'll prefer to buy the game twice, even more so.

I, for one, know I'm not gonna buy twice.

You have a very outsider and small view of what the wii was. It had a really good game library with it

THANK YOU! I LOVED my Wii. The only reason why Wii U beats Wii by a tiny fraction as, my favorite Nintendo system of all time is because it was just a continuation of Wii with some really good yet small amount of HD games... oh and web browser... it's still usable unlike the one the Wii has.

I don't know... At least the Wii had USB ports with enough power to run an HDD without complaining. /s

All that talk about (it) having a shity battery and no games is what stopped me from buying. Now fanboyz rejoice on your Nintendo switch shield.:rofl2:

But, does Nvidia Shield have splatoon 2, pikmin 4, next smash bros, xenoblade 2, next fire emblem mario Odyssey or zelda?

No

Will I be able to play splatoon 2, pikmin 4, next smash bros, xenoblade 2, next fire emblem mario Odyssey or zelda on my PS4?

No

Will I be able to play splatoon 2, pikmin 4, next smash bros, xenoblade 2, next fire emblem mario Odyssey on my PC?

No

All I see here is blind haterism and a lack of perspective.

literally why I bought a switch, not that I'm not getting odyssey or splatoon, but if there is Xenoblade on a console I'm getting it pretty much no matter what else comes to it or how powerful it is.

Splatoon 2 = summer
Super Mario Oddysey = Holidays
Next Smash = dunno, at this point ut could be out in two or three years.
Xenoblade 2 = "2017" ("" because it could be delayed)
Next waifu milked emblem = meh

Oh yeah, dont forget all the indies and 1-2 switch GOTY

In short words, you will still have to wait for those games to come, and the initial 300usd price for just one game worth of playing that is also available on a last gen console is not worth a purchase imo.

I bought the Switch for Xenoblade 2 (not only for it, but it was a deciding factor), the same way I bought the Wii U for Xenoblade X. But sure like that time it will be delayed, it sounds to me kind of impossible for them to release it in 2016.

PS: Well, perhaps Monolith has a time machine, who knows.

IDK man, 2016 is very much possible if they started work April 2015 (X's JPN release)

Do not want to sound rude, but you should have waited a little bit more before purchasing the switch, at least until splatoon 2 is released.

btw fixed the last post, ty for pointing it out with sarcasm.

You have a point about that. I have three power bricks coming out of my Wii U. I get wanting to help save the environment and all but the Wii was already helping by being no powerful than 22 watts.

If someone figures out how to port the Switch's OS to Shield...YES. Remember they are the SAME pieces of hardware minus the Switch's extra gig of RAM. Something tells me, that probably wont matter for most games. Hell Wii U only has 2 gigs of ram and runs BotW. Also if I'm correct Wii U games only really have access to 1 of the 2 gigs, leaving the other gig for the OS. BTW Shield has some really good AAA games that Switch doesnt have. You'd be wise to hope that Switch gets an Android TV port so that you can get the best of both worlds.

Um... give it 3 to 5 years and that answer will be yes. Have you seen the recent Wii U emulation scene? Do you know what site you are on? As Impact Wrestling former world champ, Eddie Edwards would say: AIP, Anything Is Possible

Dont get your hopes up, nvidia hardware hasn't been easy to emulate since ever, just go take a look at the Original Xbox.

The original Xbox isn't a good example for this dude. It used customized parts that people still don''t know much about and large portions of its CPU, GPU, the deceptively complex audio system and BIOS remains undocumented and shrouded in mystery to the point where people are finding new things about the damn thing even now.
