Gaming I've been using loadiine for a couple years now, but breath of wild has 40,000 files.

Do I finally need to bite the bullet and install rednand so I can wupinstall to a harddrive?
I don't really want to, I'm used to loadiine, and I have a 128gb sdmicrocard that's working fine in my wiiu, but this zelda load time? it's unbearable.

What do you guys think? would the load time even get that much better on usb? I don't think the wiiu's usb is even 3.0 is it? Is there anything that would speed loading up on my sdcard?

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been highly cautious of going haxchi or not. I have a undeniable fear of bricking my Wii U... I bought it for this game alone, and my kids would be devastated if I broke it. I'm trying to get answers about whether updates allow faster loading using loadiine, but no answers yet. I noticed the loadiine vid on youtube that the guys didn't load via update... was wondering if the update helped? Also, is it only the intro portions that cause the long load times? Does it level out in anyway when the game opens up? I wish I could just get all the answers in one place, as this is severely cutting into my work time. LOL

Haxchi won't brick your console. Worst that will happen is you have to delete and redownload the DS VC.

The updates contain the models of the NPCs so it is required.

40k files is normal.
A lot of 360/PS3/Xbox games that can be extracted have a similar number of files.
Besides, flash media is quicker then Harddrives.

sdcards random access non-sequential speeds are actually very bad, that's why people say loadiine is bad with lots of files.
xbox games get installed on a harddrive, so the comparison is meaningless.
other wiiu games are only like 50files because they're in "pak" or "data" files, on computers yeah, it's like 50/50 if the developer packs up their loose files or not.
from what I've heard though sdcards really struggle with this compared to hdds.

However if you guys don't think the harddrive is faster, like @DinohScene says then that means I can keep using my 128gb sdmicrocard because 128gb is plenty.

Okay so it looks like I could do this easily because I'm on 5.4.0
https://gbatemp.net/threads/wup-installer-title-installer-firmware-spoofing-3-x-5-4-0.397053/ wupinstaller.com
only thing that worries me is "-Enough space on the Wii U NAND, this will not install to USB."
seems like the version of wupinstaller that works on 5.4.0 can't install to usb? only to nand? which would work fine for 1game I guess, but not all of them.

Other than that thread I'm not quite sure how to run wupinstaller, most of the thread guides are about how to install a custom firmware, or how easy it is to use wupinstaller once you're in your custom firmware, but my loadiine 5.4.0 setup is working so well I don't want to have to invalidate it to try out the futuristic improvements of a usb install, hmm. Things have changed so much in the past two years, I'm not sure I'm ready for this bright future.

Packing files is a HUGE ram consumer... because it have to upack into the ram before using the needed file...

Flash memory has faster random access speeds than HDDs. The problem is that the Wii U's FAT32 driver is insanely slow.
Use WUPInstaller Y mod or WUPInstaller GX2 instead of the original. They support installing directly to USB.

So, forgive me for asking here; is ISOUHAX, HAXCHI and MOCHA all pretty much the same thing?? There's so many different tutorials on youtube, I want to make sure I'm going the safest method of going the USB method. And also, with going the USB method, can you still go through the loadiine method too if you felt like it? Basically, can they work together? I got a decent sized SDcard (128GB), but a smaller spare USB (only 16GB, IIRC). Soooo, if I were to only put BotW on the USB and run it through there, could I switch back and forth from playing BotW on USB and continue playing what I have on SDcard too using Loadiine? Sorry for the plethora of convoluted questions... it's hard to get descriptive answers when you don't know necessarily how to ask certain things.

Edit: Ok, have more questions... I have everything blocked, internet-wise, on my WiiU and even my router filters. How am I able to access the eShop to get Brain Age? After disabling the filters, Will having Loadiine brick my console if I access the internet from the WiiU and create a Nintendo Account to access the eShop? Many thanks in advance to all you guys!!!

mocha requires 5.5.1 though right? I'm on 5.4.0
I spend all day driving around town a year or two ago to find a wiiu box with an old enough serial number for 5.4.0
because back then all the guides said you needed it, I'm too paranoid to update to 5.5.1 which is what someone told me mocha required?

I thought the same thing; don't be afraid, you won't lose any special functions. Unless lower FW Wii U can become a battery pack for a Nintendo Zapper ray gun.

I mean back when I got my wiiu, loadiine and browser hacks only worked on 5.4.0 so I worked really hard to keep it on that, never went online, etc, if I update, I'll have to update my exploits, sure, that might not be too hard... but I'm used to having my wiiu entirely blocked from the internet and hosting my browser hacks loadiine and homebrew files on my home desktop over wifi to the wiiu. Now all the rage is connecting to the internet for exploits, but what are people gonna do if 5.6 comes out? it'll be hard to keep 5.5.1 from updating itself each time you go to the exploit assess gate website?

1) There is practically no reason to stay on 5.3.2/5.4.0, so update to 5.5.1 (it's been said countless 100 times for months now)

2) Don't be a tight ass like everyone else who refuses to buy a VC title from the e-shop. Seriously, what is $7 compared to what you will save in the long run?

3) USB loading is the current way forward (you can still use Loadiine too, along side with it)

4) Mocha is practically not required, once you have a legit paid VC game installed, as everything can be done in SysNand with Haxchi/Chbc.

5) Updates can still be blocked using the current methods.

I'll third that. I rocked 5.4.0 for the longest time and was afraid to update. But I trusted everyone on here and it was totally fine. I disabled all my Nintendo firewall filters on my router, enabled Auto on my IP thing on my WiiU and let it update to 5.5.1. Blocked everything again afterward, fired up loadiine and updated everything through the appstore. Seems to run better and haven't had any errors as I did before. If you are solely loadiine user, then do it. I'm in the midst of migrating to USB by installing IOSUhax today, as BotW apparently is not very loadiine friendly... I have been afraid of bricking and all that, but these methods seem relatively safe. The LEAST you can do is update to 5.5.1. On that you can trust me. I'd do it before this friday too... Who knows what BotW may contain... But Nintendo has pretty much abandoned the Wii U. Not expecting anymore support on it.

do any disk games come with 5.5.1? or do I have to decide what I want to do before friday? or risk forever being condemned to the 5.4.0 hell I'm in right now? (A hell I find safe, easy, and confidence inspiring).

I believe Mario Color Splash does. Not 100% on that though.
