A lot of people here, surprisingly believe that within a week after the Switch release they'll be running CFWs and pirating games left and right.

Just a quick reality check, this won't happen. Even if someone finds a miracle exploit within the first week, you will less likely see anything close to hombrew/cfw until 2018, because finding an exploit is not enough.

May I remind you that Nintendo 3DS was released in February 2011 and that the first exploit was found in early 2013 (Nintendo DS profile exploit), I remember there was so much hype about the exploit and the forums going crazy over it. Month after month I was checking these forums in hopes to see some news regarding backups, and nothing....until Gateway released the first ever PAID 3DS flashcart in August 2013 around 6-7 months after the exploit was discovered.

So it took 2.5 years since the release of the 3DS until the first tool that allowed to play roms appeared. And free CFWs appeared 2 years later(when the 9.2 exploit was released), so It took 4 years until the first FREE CFW.

I understand that Switch is not a 3DS, in fact Switch is nothing like any other console, but I'm 100% sure that the security is going to be much tighter even if it's unlike any other console, so I wouldn't hold your breath to see anything significant within the first couple of years.

Just wanted to throw in some information, not because I'm getting the Switch anytime soon or because I plan on getting it modified or anything, but Nintendo has a history of using current hardware and current tech instead of "next gen" products for manufacturing. That doesn't mean they don't set up good security because they're a huge company that people support, but hardware modifications were readily available on the scene way before the public exploits and it wasn't set up that way because it wasn't conducive at the time. You never know what "sinister" team would want to go ahead and jack in and break into the switch. Nintendo's a huge company especially because of the modifications, but I feel like the different teams respect Nintendo and gave them those "3 years" to solidify their sales without them, and then the 3ds and the Wii U did stronger sales after the mods were available

I mostly agree but i would like to through in some stuff. First off, ya, it will take a long time for CFW or any form of exploit to be found and i'm keeping it cool. But there will be people out there who will demand homebrew from developers and they need to relax and understand that these developers like Smea and yellow8 ow them nothing and do this as a hobby FOR FREE. But like @Bladexdsl said, it is an android based devise.... so, who knows? We might see something earlier than we think. ^_^ But we shouldn't expect much for a while. Smea is already getting some supplies to tinker with the switch so that's exciting. :)

EDIT: Okay, I learned it's not android based. I was wrong. XD

That's the major problem with the majority of this site here.
They're all pirates who only care about free games.

Besides, you know how pirates are.
If they could pirate the device they'd do it (kiddies asking if there's a Wii U emulator mere days after Wii U launch)

Remember summer of 2013 well. Youngest sons birthday was early July and we gave him a couple of games, of course they required a system update. I knew something was on the horizon but didn't know what or when. Had a few talks with the boys about the consequences of updating but they wanted to play those games.

It is also important to remember even when Gateway came out it was one game per mSD card, not exactly cheap at the time. Can't remember how long it was for multi rom support but I know it took long awhile. Those 4.x 3DS weren't cheap on eBay either.

Once could buy a second Switch and shelve it. I bought a Wii U "console only" off eBay for $100 and left it offline and just for MK8 and such in the bedroom for this reason and guess what? Ended up not being necessary and kind of a waste of $100.

Piracy is rarely cheap, free and fast. At best you get one of those.

This is true. While I believe the Switch WILL be hacked, definitely, I very much doubt the community will see it anytime soon.

Well, its based but its certainly not one. I could be wrong and i don't know that much about it. I don't really care to be honest. I didn't even have a wii u. I stopped buying consoles a while ago. I just lurk from time to time. :P

My gut says it will be exploited sooner than most people think.
But come March, the only things being exploited will be the Early Adopters.
