Alright.
NES - QuickNES
SNES - Snesx2010
GB/GBC/GBA - mGBA [If you want seperate emulator for GBA then try vba next]
Genesis - Genesis Plus GX
Those work just fine. Save states work.
If QuickNES doesn't work for you then try nestopia.
Have fun. :)

All of the ones that you suggested. And no I didn't create a retroarch folder. Maybe that's the problem. Do I just put it on the root of the SD card?
Yeah. (Also) Create a folder inside it with name "roms" and insert every rom you have to this folder. It should save state without a problem after you're done.

It worked. Can you tell me if there's anyway I can use my Wii remote to play the nes games? Instead of the gamepad?

I don't think there's a way currently to use other controller than Wii U Gamepad. You can try by pairing Wii Remote in Wii U Menu then going into retroarch and see if it works. (Buttons might need to be remapped, implying if that even works)

I would prefer Snes9x mainline over 2010 as there are some speed hacks that break visual effects in Final Fantasy VI and the like (menu/shop screen having missing Mode 7), but that's my two cents. Snes9x mainline/1.53 runs perfectly and has no disadvantage over Next.

Some unofficial snes9x version with some changes. Based on 1.52

It's a speed hacked version to run on slower devices; the Wii U has more than enough juice to run 1.53 main.
