Nintendo's been region-locking their home consoles since the TV Game 6 ( although that was unintentional I imagine). The 3DS was their first region locked handheld though, so who knows with the half-breed.

I would love region free so I can play the Taiko games without any kind of hacking/modding. The reason I downgraded my original 3DS in the first place was so I could play the Taiko 3DS games.

I think Japan would decline. They are very self righteous about their culture and hate anything outside of their bubble impacting their lives. If you go into a Japanese or Korean online games they require ssid's just to make an account. They think your a trolling catfish before accepting your out of their country. They will how ever take your money so hey it's possible. I just imagine them not being as accepting with games like medabots 9 which has a much higher fan base in japan than other countries and then they would have to pay for voice acting and re write the english or gameplay like fire emblem with a girl/guy becoming a guygirl and falling in love. As it would be considered brainwashing to a community.

It won't be region-free. I'm 99% sure. If Nintendo wanted region-free, they would have disabled the 3DS region-lock via a simple system update. Think about it. Nintendo is a family company. Its reason behind the region-lock is that different countries have different age rating systems. It's very, very unlikely that Nintendo throws its region-lock policy away just because a new system is released.

But hey, maybe the new president is a bloodthursty-call-of-duty-zombie-killer-racist-murderer and wants to take Nintendo in a different direction.

Then again, maybe not.

The only thing confirmed regarding the Switch is that Nintendo is hiding information like if it were Project Manhattan.
Hell, it releases in four months and they still haven't shown even one real screen of the switch running anything.

And I pull it out of my ass that it will be region locked, because Nintendo.
