Sega-Genesis-Mk2-6button.jpg

Due to popular demand in Brazil, Tec Toy (The company that has been distribute sega products in Brazil since 1989) Has received permission by sega to start reproduction of the Sega mega drive also known as Genesis in North America. As of now, is not known if there will be sold in other countries yet, but it apperently features sd card slot for rom emulation.

For those of you who cannot read portugues, here is the english translation.

"Sega Genesis Limited Edtion! Get yours, right now!"

"It's back!"

"The most wanted video game in 90's."

"Games in its memory."

"Original design."

"Cartridge input/slot."

"Classic joystick."

"Get yours, right now!"

"Limited edition."
Sega may be done making the Genesis (known as the Mega Drive outside of the U.S.), but that doesn't mean people aren't still buying them. In Brazil, the 16-bit system is still hugely popular, and now it's being brought back into production.

TecToy, which produces all manner of gadgets and toys, has launched preorders for all-new Sega Mega Drive stock, complete with support for the original game library and controllers. But what's even more astounding about the announcement is that it's all being done with Sega's blessing, making these official, brand new, Sega-branded consoles.

The new consoles are spitting images of the originals, aside from the addition of an SD card slot, which makes it great for emulation. They're even complete with support for A/V cables, though there's no HDMI or other bells or whistles. That might seem like a bad move, but for the Brazilian market, it's a perfect fit, not to mention that you can easily pick up an A/V-to-HDMI converter for fairly cheap.

22 games are included on the SD card:

  • ALEX KIDD
  • ALIEN STORM
  • ALTERED BEAST
  • ARROW FLASH
  • BONANZA BROTHERS
  • COLUMNS
  • DECAP ATTACK
  • E-SWAT
  • FATAL LABYRINTH
  • FLICKY
  • GAIN GROUND
  • GOLDEN AXE
  • GOLDEN AXE 3
  • JEWEL MASTER
  • KID CHAMELEON
  • LAST BATTLE
  • OUT RUNNERS
  • SEGA SOCCER
  • SHADOW DANCER
  • SHINOBI 3
  • SONIC 3
  • TURBO Outrun
Pre-orders for the system are currently priced at BRL399, which is roughly $125 in U.S. currency or £104 in other currency. It's not cheap, but the nostalgia factor of an in-production 16-bit Sega console cannot be understated.

There’s no news on whether the console might be re-released in other territories at present.

Well that is surprise coming from real brazilian. :P

But i had no idea how demanding sega products were in brazil to be honest. I mean besides how some games had been altered to feature some comic book character called monica or something.

Yeah, Turma da Mônica is really popular here so they romhacked a game ( Just like Mario Bros 2 ).
And SEGA has been huge here since the 90's.

Dat price. Seriously, I bought a a Mega Drive 1 and 2 with a bundle of games for half that price not too long ago. The ability to play via SD cards is interesting but I hope it's a better product than Blaze's attempt.

Well the price of the nes mini classic is the price of a retail game with only 30 games and you don't even get to choose. Expect to pay more for playing games off a sd card which has more potential than being stuck with only 30 games that isn't optional. :P

Its expensible. Im trying sell my genesis with flashcard for 450 reais for retro gamers and no one want to buy. Even 399 is expensible, but, grandmas and fathers will buy this if dont know is a outdated console because a PS3 is under 700 reais.

Dat brazil economy doe. :creep:

Still i dunno what pricing is like over there compared to here, but i mean Maybe they still think is 1989 when they think is possible to get away with overpriced consoles. I dunno, just have to wait and see if there is more details about pricing and release. Still that is one dedicated console for the ages in brazil. I dunno what they are like over there but it make me wonder if they never heard of a saturn or dream cast that they were still stuck playing megadriver and master system for almost 3 Decades

If it plays pirated ROMs, I'd say that's worth it to Genesis/Mega Drive fans just to have something official that plays all their downloaded games using real hardware and with 100% compatibility. But somehow I doubt that's the case, SEGA would never agree to that.
EverDrive flashcarts are not exactly cheap either, and if the choice is between an original Genesis/Mega Drive console and an EverDrive flashcart and this, and the prices are not too far off, I think most people would choose this.

Oh come on, that's not THAT bad
But you are not from brazil :P

To brazil their economy make it sound awful but to us is not that bad, But still i could buy any android tv or even OUYA and play 1080P Games on emulator with the emulators they have, so godlike.

That or any hacked console is just better in my opinion. I found no flaws in genesis emulation aside from maybe minor sound quality issues, but who could say it would even be fixed? I noticed in some sega 3d classics on 3ds eshop has option for genesis 2 sound but honestly i can tell the difference.

But to be honest, i wish there was more info like if it really is using official hardware for best compatibility and use roms by sd card or can play official carts or even maybe HDMI 1080P support. Maybe even work with 32x or sega cd, or you could just rom dump carts direct to sd with the system, I dunno i just thinking make me wanna try and break a leg doing somersaults. :bortz2:

(I don't actually know how to do backflips )
