New 2D Sonic game, Sonic Mania announced for PS4/XB1/PC

Coming right from a panel at Comic Con, is SEGA's latest Sonic game. It'll be developed by Christian Whitehead, the man behind the mobile ports of Sonic 1, 2 and CD. Titled Sonic Mania, it's set to release on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms in Spring 2017. According to the trailer, it appears to be a return to classic 2D form for the series. There's special stages, 3 playable characters (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles), and old school Genesis era graphics.

Developed in collaboration between SEGA, Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games, experience new zones and remixed classic levels with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles!

Sega, going back in time, and once against becoming a rival to Nintendo, lol.
Nintendo does what Sega failed at long time ago back in 1993 when they released their first master hit Danky Kang for the NES--
O wait that's not how the famous slogan went....hmmm

Man, that looks fantastic! I don't know what else to say than that this is looking to be a must buy. Music was great but it seemed to be made only for the trailer.

How kickstarter has been going lately, I don't think it would get kickstarted.

Christian Whitehead? They guy they wouldn't let do the mobile ports of Sonic 3/Knuckles? Yeah, that guy. About time they give him more credit where credit's due. I'm happy to see another 2D Sonic game, but the question remains.... Where is Sonic 4 Episode III??

Haha, well... Actually I edited my post after seeing that this game is crowdfunded. Not that it matters anyways. I noticed that 3DS support for the engine was through Homebrew channel. That's... interesting...

Did it really? I had no idea. I figured it'd sold better than Ep I since it was HD on all ports, compared to Ep I not having an HD port on mobile, at the very least.

When the game is released someone will most likely port it over if it's not already able to just have files copied over for it to work.

Or maybe they'll end up releasing it on 3DS officially. Who knows?

I'm hoping for the latter. When thinking of it, how can you sell it for other platforms, but distribute it through Homebrew Channel for free (or is there a system for selling homebrew games?)

Bleh. Looks like any Sonic 1/2/3 ROM hack. Kinda sucks this is the 25th anniversary game.
Seeing that they're releasing it next year, I believe it is not the 25th anniversary game. Still, it is hard to think otherwise from watching the teaser...

It would be awesome if later they managed to make a stripped down version for the mega drive/genesis/sega cd/32x/whatever, seeing that there is a thing for releasing games on cartridges for the mega drive lately.

I and Hayato warned him not to, but he won't listen
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
    @BigOnYa,
I don't listen? What didn't I listen at? I just want to know all the possible risks on that part
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Hayato even said it's dangerous to backup the save files to CFW
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
how is this dangerous? A ton of people did this it's the most common thing to do with CFW
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Then do it
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
    dude, whatever
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not trying to hate, I tried to help you in the switch noob thread by asking for you, but you don't want to accept the answers you got, so do whatever then.

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Man, first of all thanks for your willing to help, much appreciated. But, it's not that I "don't want to listen", rather than I need soemone to EXPLAIN to me how and why all these are risky.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Putting your dick in certain areas is always a risk

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
For example, HOW is is risky to get banned if you extract the save files to the CFW?
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
isn't this proccess be done while you're offline?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We are not Nintendo, so we don't know exactly how/why/when they ban, but better to stay on the safe side and not do shady stuff, if you don't want to be banned. Hayato is one of the most knowledgeable ones here on the subject and I believe what he says.

    300 bucks hmmm lol
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Yes ofc we don't know how Nintendo bans work, but if there are situations where a lot of people have tried safely then we can at least assume that this path is pretty much safe. To say don't try anything homebrew relative just to be safe forever is the easiest thing to say to someone. What I am trying to figure out here is with which cases and what actions got most of the people their bans for.
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Most things I can find resulting to a ban is save-editing reasons, like Pokehex, etc, and going online afterwards.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm almost certain fucking Google fibers modems blocking out PPPoE signals
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Like the 6th time I had to reboot this router trying to get PPPoE active
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Ken, your hamster inside it is hungry. Can't you turn POE on/off in your WiFi settings page? Or is it not staying on?
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Well, in that thread they say it's pretty much safe to manage save files back and forth to consoles as long as you don't go online with cheats activated or with a pirate game.
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
I own every of my games legit with their own cartridges

also, I'm not planning to use any cheats, etc, just continue the normal gameplay on the emulator
